Jason Reynolds (Centereach, NY) recorded his 100th career point on Thursday in Mount Saint Vincent's 16-7 win at Saint Joseph's College of Maine. Reynolds scored five goals and added an assist in the win, the Dolphins third of the season.
After the Monks opened the scoring at the 9:27 mark of the first quarter on a goal from Ryan Prescott, the Dolphins ran off eight straight goals to open a seven goal lead with 1:46 left in the second quarter. Saint Joseph's put home two of the last three goals of the quarter to trim the Dolphin lead to 9-3 at the half.
Mount Saint Vincent would secure the win by outscoring St. Joe's 7-4 in the second half. Stan Wong (Merrick, NY) and Mike Shea (Congers, NY) each tallied twice after the intermission, while Reynolds, Chris Beerman (Floral Park, NY) and Bill Downes (Barkhamsted, CT) also scored in the second half.
Reynolds was one of four players to score at least two goals for the Mount and one of seven different goal scorers overall. Wong also had a big day as he scored three times and added three assists. Brian Zambri (Brooklyn, NY) and Shea each added a pair of markers, with Shea also posting an assist.
Ken Valentine (Centereach, NY) and Derek Charlton (Yonkers, NY) each posted four groundballs to lead the team, with Reynolds and James O'Connell (Elmont, NY) scooping three apiece for the Dolphins. Beerman led the Mount with a game-high 13 face-off wins.
Tom Egan (Nanuet, NY) picked up the win in goal for the Dolphins after playing the first 30:00 and making six saves. Mike Nuzzi (Westbury, NY) came on and made six saves in the second half for the Mount to go along with a groundball.
The Monks were led by Tyler Arsenault who finished the tilt with three goals. Blake Edwards added three points with a pair of goals and a helper for Saint Joseph's. Brendan Dyer played the full 60:00 in goal for the Monks and made 13 saves, including six in the opening period.
For the game, Mount Saint Vincent held the advantage in shots 42-35. Groundballs were even at 28 each in the game and Mount Saint Vincent won 13 of the 25 face-offs in the game. The Dolphins were also successful on 16 of their 23 clearing attempts.
The win moves Mount Saint Vincent to 3-10 overall on the season. The Dolphins will return to action on Saturday when they host Skyline Conference rival Kean. Face-off with the Cougars is set for 11:00 a.m. at the Fieldston School in Riverdale.
