Purchase, NY - For the second straight season, the University of Mount Saint Vincent tied a program-high Skyline Conference wins in a single season with their win over Purchase on Tuesday night. And for the second straight season, a record has been broken.
Sophomore
Alfred Lamptey's breakout sophomore campaign was taken to new heights against the Panthers, as his impressive 17 ground balls gave him the program record for the most in a single campaign, topping last year's teammate
Mustapha Daffeh, who recorded 102. Lamptey has three games remaining to add to his dominant mark.
The Dolphins, meanwhile, were no match for their opponents, winning by the score of 16-6 to bring their Skyline record to .500 on the year.
UMSV was quick to get on the board, with
Chai Dunlap and
Sam Hall scoring within one minute of each other to help their team jump out to a two goal lead. Purchase would answer to tie the game with just over seven minutes to go in the first quarter - but from there, it was all Dolphins.
Head Coach
James Fitzgerald's offense would rattle off seven straight goals, with the freshmen duo of
Nigel Walker and
Elvis Prempeh doing all the damage. Walker would record four goals in that span, including one in a man-down disadvantage, while Prempeh collected a hat trick. The unit didn't let off the pedal, as they would outscore the Panthers 8-4 in the second half with Dunlap,
Isaac Parsons,
Walker Moore and
Logan Charboneau also tallying goals.
The defense was equally as impressive on the other end of the field. The unit, led by Moore,
Brandon Mestres,
Jake Luxoro and
Jackson Taylor, combined for 10 caused turnovers while allowing just 10 shots on goal.
Joseph Seminatore got the call in net for UMSV and made four saves.
Walker finished with a game-high six goals to go along with an assist while Dunlap recorded five points of his own. Lamptey went 17-for-22 in faceoffs in addition to his record breaking performance.
With a win in their back pocket, the Dolphins will now gear up to take on Farmingdale State on Thursday.
