Mount Saint Vincent Pulls Away From Old Westbury

Old Westbury, N.Y. – Led by two goals from Joyce Pagliuca (Yorktown Heights, N.Y.) and a pair of assists from Julia McGowan (Pearl River, N.Y.), the College of Mount Saint Vincent Women's Soccer team scored an important 4-1 Skyline Conference road win at Old Westbury on Tuesday. The win is the first ever by the Dolphins over the Panthers.
 
Mount Saint Vincent scored the first two goals of the game, tallying late in the first period and early coming out of halftime to get all the scoring it needed in the game. Pagliuca netted her third goal of the season at the 40:01 mark of the match off a pass from McGowan to give the Mount a 1-0 lead at the half.
 
Over the first 45 minutes of play, Mount Saint Vincent held a slim 5-4 advantage in shots. Freshman goalie Elizabeth Martin (Lawrenceville, N.J.) made two stops in the first half to keep the Mount in front by a goal.
 
Coming out of halftime, DeRosa put the Dolphins in front 2-0 in the 48th minute. McGowan picked up her second assist of the game on the play, feeding DeRosa for her team leading fourth game winning goal of the season 47:02 into the contest.
 
Old Westbury would get on the board in the 55th minute to cut its deficit in half on a goal from Tosin Akinfeleye, but the Dolphins scored twice in the final six minutes to secure their first conference win of the season. Erin Dailey (East Windsor, N.J.) scored her third goal of the season in the 85th minute and Pagliuca posted her first career multi-goal game when she scored her second of the game in the final minute.
 
DeRosa finished with her ninth goal of the season and now has four markers in her last two outings. She leads the team in goals and points with 25 following Tuesday's scoring output. Pagliuca moved into fourth on the team in goals with four and with her next point will become the fifth Mount Saint Vincent player with at least 10 points on the season.

McGowan continued her strong freshman season with two more points and moves her team-high assist total to 11. She is tied for second on the team in points with 17.
 
Martin picked up her sixth win in goal on Tuesday and moved to 6-2 on the season after making three saves in the game. She dropped her goals against average to 1.09 and raised her save percentage to .774 with Tuesday's effort. Caitlin Thomas made four saves in the loss for Old Westbury.
 
The Dolphins outshot the Panthers 11-2 in the second half to finish with a 16-6 edge in the category for the game. The Mount took the only two corner kicks in the contest, while fouls in the game were whistled 11-9 against the Dolphins.
 
Tuesday's win snapped a seven game losing streak to Old Westbury dating back to 2008. Over that stretch, Old Westbury had outscored Mount Saint Vincent 31-2, including a 2-1 overtime win in last year's Skyline Conference Tournament.
 
Mount Saint Vincent improves to 8-2 overall on the season and to 1-1 in league play following Tuesday's result. The Dolphins will look to extend a three game winning streak on Friday when they play host to St. Joseph's-L.I. Kick-off at the Athletic Field at Marillac is set for 3:30 p.m.
