Dolphins Suffer Heartbreak In Double OT Loss In Skyline Final

Riverdale, NY - The Dolphins made it three straight seasons in the Skyline Conference final. Unfortunately, the end result didn't go the way the team wanted.

The top-seeded University of Mount Saint Vincent went toe-to-toe with #3 St. Joseph's University Long Island on Marillac Field, pitting two of the best teams in the conference against one another for the Skyline's top prize. It was a fantasic, tightly contested battle that saw the two sides play into a second overtime, but it was the Golden Eagles who got the final goal of the evening, resulting in a 2-1 victory for the visitors.

UMSV ends their 2025 campaign with a 13-4-2 record.

The game was as defensive of a battle as it gets. The two sides traded possessions, with the Dolphins controlling the tempo despite being out-shot 8-3 in the first half of action. Senior goalkeeper Javiera Sanchez turned away the three shots that came her way over that span.

Looking to get an edge, it was Aiyanna Robles Sedano who would provide the spark for the Dolphins. The Iona transfer was on the receiving end of beautiful ball movement, starting with junior Gisselle Soria who found a streaking Jazzlyn Cedillo at midfield. Cedillo would carry the ball through multiple defenders before finding a streaking Robles Sedano down the right side, who placed a shot perfectly to put her team up 1-0 with 10 minutes remaining in the first half.

The second half was a great showing overall by UMSV. They controlled both the ball and the tempo of play, outshooting the Golden Eagles 5-3 while limiting chances. SJLI, however, would come through in the clutch when Emily Farrington took advantage of miscommunication to tie things up with 13 minutes on the clock. The score would carry into two overtimes, where the Dolphins once again played a complete brand of soccer.

Unfortunately for UMSV, a foul was called near the top of the box, resulting in a free kick opportunity with two minutes remaining before penalty kicks. Sanchez made the save on the initial attempt, but the saved ricocheted off her hands and to the feet of Savannah Modica, who made the play of the night with the game-winning goal.

The Dolphins once again proved this season why they're not only arguably the top team in the conference, but are in the running for one of the better teams in the region. There is no doubt 2026 will yield similar results.
