Mount Saint Vincent Drops Overtime Heartbreaker At Old Westbury

Old Westbury, N.Y. – The College of Mount Saint Vincent Women's Soccer team was eliminated from the Skyline Conference Tournament on Saturday afternoon following a 2-1 overtime loss at fourth seeded Old Westbury. Sophomore Vanessa Cornacchio (Oceanside, N.Y.) scored the lone goal for the Dolphins.
 
Cornacchio broke a scoreless tie in the 28th minute on Saturday to give Mount Saint Vincent a one goal lead. She corralled a deflected ball inside the box and buried her team leading 13th goal of the season at the 27:53 mark of the match.
 
Mount Saint Vincent carried a 1-0 lead into halftime in the contest despite being outshot by Old Westbury 13-5. The Dolphins took five corner kicks in the opening 45 minutes and junior goalkeeper Kelly Hilly (Massapequa, N.Y.) kept the Mount in front with six first half saves.
 
The one goal lead would stand for the Dolphins until the 78th minute when the Panthers got the equalizer from Stephanie Maybie. She finished off a passing play at 77:14 to knot the game at one goal apiece.
 
The two teams went to the first overtime period with Old Westbury holding a 17-11 edge in shots. Mount Saint Vincent held the Panthers to just four attempts in the second half and took three more corner kicks.
 
Tied at 1-1, the Panthers got the game winning goal off the foot of Michelle Ventimiglia just under four minutes into the stanza. She buried a rebound off a save from Hilly to send Old Westbury to the semifinal round of the tournament at 93:59.
 
Hilly finished the game with six saves, while Caitlin Thomas stopped four Mount Saint Vincent shots to earn the win.
Old Westbury finished the game with a 22-11 advantage in shots, while the Mount took an 8-4 edge in corner kicks. Allison Bhadai (Wappingers Falls, N.Y.) paced the Mount with four shots in the game, with Cornacchio and Charlotte Barnham (London, England) recording three and two respectively.
 
The loss drops Mount Saint Vincent to 11-8 overall on the season. The Dolphins will now await word on a possible ECAC bid following the conclusion of the Skyline Conference Tournament and NCAA Tournament selections.
