Yonkers, N.Y. – The College of Mount Saint Vincent Women's Soccer team posted an important 3-0 league victory over Purchase on Saturday night at Tibbetts Brook Park. The Dolphins were led by a pair of goals from
Allison Bhadai (Wappingers Falls, N.Y.) and a three point effort from
Vanessa Cornacchio (Oceanside, N.Y.) in a win that pushes them into fifth in the league rankings.
Cornacchio scored the game winning goal in the 33
rd minute on Saturday to break a scoreless tie at 32:28. She cleaned up a rebound off a free-kick off the foot of
Charlotte Barnham (London, England) for her 12
th tally of the season and her sixth game winning marker.
Bhadai gave Mount Saint Vincent a two goal advantage 63 seconds later when she got on the board with her fourth goal of the season. She collected a pass from Cornacchio and chipped a shot over the Purchase keeper and into the back of the net for a two goal halftime advantage.
Mount Saint Vincent put the game away in the 53
rd minute when Bhadai struck for her second goal of the night at 52:23. She picked up a free ball around midfield and broke in on a partial breakaway to close out the scoring in the game.
In just five games this season, Bhadai has amassed 13 points on the strength of five goals and three assists. She has scored multiple goals in a game twice and stands fourth on the team in points. Cornacchio improved her team-high in points to 27 after registering a goal and a helper against the Panthers.
Kelly Hilly (Massapequa, N.Y.) earned her sixth win in goal on Saturday and recorded her third shutout in the win. She stopped eight shots, four in each half, to secure the victory. Jess Lindsay made four saves for the visitors.
Purchase finished the night with the advantage in shots at 15-10 overall and 8-7 in shots on goal. The Panthers rounded out the night with a 2-1 edge in corner kicks.
Saturday's victory pushes Mount Saint Vincent to 10-6 overall on the season and to 3-3 in league play. The Dolphins have reached double digits in wins for the first time since 2005 and recorded as many as three league wins in a season for the first time since 2007.
The Dolphins will be back in action again on Tuesday night when they travel to St. Joseph's-L.I. for the first of two road games to close the regular season.
