Yonkers, N.Y. – The College of Mount Saint Vincent Women's Soccer team dropped its third straight contest on Saturday evening after a 3-0 loss to Farmingdale State. Senior goalkeeper
Marni O'Shea (White Plains, N.Y.) played a strong game in goal for the Mount, making 11 saves.
The Rams got on the board with the eventual game winning goal at the 16:39 mark of the match when Christina Merrill finished off a pass from Theresa Martarano. After Martarano found Merrill on the left side, the goal scorer floated the ball overtop of the keepers head for the early one goal advantage.
Farmingdale State got its second goal of the contest just over four minutes later when Samantha Kender buried a pass from 25 yards out. Shannon Murphy found Kender on the right wing and she deposited the goal at 20:41 into the tilt.
Heading into halftime, Farmingdale State took 18 of the 19 shots in the opening 45 minutes, with O'Shea making five saves prior to the intermission. The Rams also took all four of the corner kicks in the first period.
Martarano closed out the scoring in the game two minutes into the second half after she finished off Murphy's second assists of the night. Murphy touched the ball to the eventual goal scorer at the top of the box and she banged the shot home to the far post.
O'Shea was under siege all night from Farmingdale State and finished the night with 11 saves. It is the second straight game she has made double-figure stops, after she stopped a season-high 14 attempts against Mount Saint Mary on September 24.
The visitors used a pair of keepers in the contest with Stacey Rao earning the win after playing the first 45 minutes. Breanna Blair came on in the second half and was forced to make the only save of the game for the Rams.
Overall, Farmingdale State held a 33-2 advantage in shots on the night and a 15-1 edge in shots on goal.
Shannon Doyle (Central Islip, N.Y.) and
Angela Chen (Bronxville, N.Y.) recorded the shots for the Dolphins. The Rams also closed the night with all nine corner kicks in the game, while fouls were whistled 10-5 against the visitors.
The loss drops Mount Saint Vincent under the .500 mark overall on the season at 4-5 and to 0-3 in league play. The Dolphins will look to get back into the win column on Wednesday evening when they travel to Maritime. Kick-off is scheduled for 5:00 p.m.
