Riverdale, NY - The University of Mount Saint Vincent dropped a tightly contested 1-0 decision to Ursinus College in its 2026 season opener on Saturday afternoon on Marillac Field.
The final blow came at the 87th minute after a defensive battle kept the scored knotted at zero for the majority of the afternoon.
The Dolphins controlled much of the offensive pressure throughout the contest, outshooting Ursinus 9-5 and placing six shots on goal. Kerrigyn Lynam led UMSV with five shots, including two on target, while Eva Puentes, Brittany Boyle, Lily Ostiguy and Jamie Landavazo each recorded a shot on goal.
Puentes, the reigning Skyline Conference Offensive Player of the Year, narrowly missed her first strike of the year when she hit the post late in the second half.
UMSV goalkeeper Kaitlyn Grady made two saves in the contest, helping keep the match level deep into the second half. The veteran, battle-tested defense led by Cameron Cruz, Maddie Halford and Gisselle Soria helped stifle a Bears offense to minimal opportunities.
The Dolphins open the season at 0-1 overall following the narrow defeat. They're jumping right into conference action, with a matchup set against Yeshiva on Tuesday.
