Yonkers, N.Y. – Trailing by three goals at halftime on Thursday afternoon, the College of Mount Saint Vincent Women's Soccer squad rallied against Maritime to earn a 3-3 draw in the 2011 home finale. Rookie
Danielle Heumegni (Bronx, N.Y.) scored twice for the Mount, while
Laura Carr (Franklin Square, N.Y.) added her first marker of the season.
The Privateers got off to a quick start in the contest, after Jorrie Trenkamp scored her first of three on the day just 4:13 into the contest. She took a long feed off the foot of Kadie Hook and found the back of the cage for the early one goal advantage.
Trenkamp would add her second maker in the 23
rd minute when she broke free of the Mount Saint Vincent defense and beat keeper
Kara McNish (Hawthorne, N.J.) 1-on-1 at the 22:08 mark. She would close out the scoring in the first half in the 39
th minute when she pounded a centering pass from Ashley Edington into the back of the net for a commanding 3-0 goal lead.
Although they trailed 3-0 at the intermission, the Mount had several chances in the opening period after only being outshot 8-7 by the Privateers. McNish made three saves in the half to keep the Dolphins alive.
Mount Saint Vincent dominated the second half and carried the play over the final 45 minutes of regulation. Heumegni got the Dolphins on the board with her third of the season in the 62
nd minute on an unassisted tally, giving her a goal in three of the team's last four contests.
Trailing 3-1, Heumegni struck again to slice the deficit to a single tally just under four minutes later.
Eva Lugo (Monteria, Columbia) touch a free ball in the box to the freshman forward and she potted it for her first career multi-goal game at the 65:12 mark. The freshman now leads the team in tallies with four and points with nine.
Down by a goal in the late stages of regulation, Mount Saint Vincent nearly got the equalizer in the 82
nd minute when Carr was stopped on two point blank chances. She was denied by the Maritime keeper on the first attempt and then rang the rebound shot off the crossbar at 81:42.
Carr would eventually strike for the Dolphins with her first of the season with just under five minutes to play in regulation time. Junior
Nicole Flores (Bethpage, N.Y.) put a perfect ball through the Maritime defense to Carr, who tucked the ball inside the far post to knot the score at three goals apiece.
Neither team could generate much offense in the overtime period, with Maritime posting the only shot in the stanza. Neither goalkeeper was forced to make a save in the 10 minute frame.
After allowing three goals in the first half, McNish settled in for the Mount in the final home game of the season. She made five saves in the game for the Dolphins, including one from close range on Trenkamp in the 72
nd minute. Maritime keeper Courtney Marietta also played a strong game and made eight saves, including five after halftime.
Mount Saint Vincent outshot the Privateers in the contest 19-11, which includes a 12-2 advantage in the second half. Corner kicks in the contest went 4-3 in favor of Maritime and fouls in the match were whistled 11-8 against the Dolphins.
The draw moves Mount Saint Vincent to 3-9-1 overall on the season and to 1-5-1 in league play heading into the regular season finale on Saturday afternoon. The Dolphins will head to Old Westbury to close out the season with kick-off scheduled for 1:00 p.m.
