Annandale-on-Hudson, N.Y. – The College of Mount Saint Vincent Women's Soccer team was
defeated on the road at Bard Thursday night in its Skyline Conference opener by a score of 5-0. The Dolphins mustered just one shot in the contest, while junior netminder
Kara McNish (Hawthorne, N.J.) made 10 saves.
Bard got on the board with the eventual game winning tally in the first minute of the contest when Erica Newton finished off a feed from Erin Hannigan just 35 seconds into the match. The Raptors would add two more tallies late in the half to take a 3-0 lead in the intermission.
The Dolphins would settle in during the second half, before Bard found the back of the net two more times in the final five minutes to secure the final five goal advantage. Hannigan finished the game with four points on a goal and two helpers, while Maddy Huggins scored twice for Bard.
For the match, Bard held the edge in shots 28-1 and took the only nine corner kicks of the contest. Fouls in the match were whistled 11-9 against Bard and the Raptors were guilty of seven offside infractions.
McNish made double-figure saves for the second time this season with her 10 on the night. Bard's keeper, Amy Srawbridge, earned the win for the Raptors without having to make a stop.
The loss drops Mount Saint Vincent to 1-4 overall on the season and to 0-1 in Skyline Conference play. The Dolphins will be back in action again inside the league on September 22 when they play host to Old Westbury. The match with the Panthers will be played at Purchase with kick-off scheduled for 4:00 p.m.
