New York, N.Y. – The College of Mount Saint Vincent Women's Soccer team dropped its third straight
decision on Tuesday afternoon with a 4-0 loss at the City College of New York. Freshman goalkeeper
Michelle Miller (Chester, Pa.) continued her solid early season play by making nine saves for the Mount.
CCNY jumped out in front 3-0 at halftime on the strength of a goal and an assist from Kristina Phu. She opened the scoring at the 25:01 mark on a penalty kicked that turned out to be the eventual game winner. Frances Tapia added a goal just over three minutes later for a two goal advantage and Phu set up the Beavers' third goal of the half when she crossed a pass to Krystyna Pereyra for a 3-0 lead with just 2:05 left before the intermission.
The Beavers closed out the scoring in the 60th minute when Carina Subia tallied her third marker of the season from inside the six yard box. Overall in the contest, CCNY had eight players register shots, led by seven from Phu.
The Dolphins finished the contest with a season-high nine shots, led by six from rookie Sarah Colletti (Mansfield, Mass.). In the game they were outshot 27-9. CCNY also held the edge in corner kicks 8-1, while fouls in the contests were called 7-3 against the Beavers.
Miller played the full 90:00 in net for the Dolphins and made her nine stops. Through three games in 2009 she has made 27 saves and has posted a save percentage of .529. CCNY used two goalies on the afternoon with Kate Malytska making four stops in the second half.
The loss drops Mount Saint Vincent to 0-3 overall on the season. The Dolphins will open Skyline Conference play on Saturday afternoon when they host Maritime. The two teams played to a 3-3 draw in 2008. Kick-off is set for 3:00 p.m. at Tibbetts Brook Park in Yonkers.
