Women's Soccer completes Skyline Conference slate with 3-0 loss to Rams

Alessi makes 11 saves; Dolphins finish Conference play 2-4-1; two non-conference games finish regular season this week

(Farmingdale, NY) - Junior Alexis Alessi (Oceanside, NY/Oceanside HS) made 11 saves during another outstanding performance, but the Mount Saint Vincent Women's Soccer team lost its final Skyline Conference contest of the 2006 season, 3-0 to Farmingdale State on Friday during a game played at Farmingdale. With the loss - the Mount's fourth during its last five games - the Dolphins fall to 6-5-1 and 2-4-1 in Skyline Conference play. The seven points and fifth-place finish in Skyline play marks one of the best seasons Mount Saint Vincent has turned in within the conference in the history of the program.

Less than 24 hours after a 4-2 win over Saint Elizabeth, the Mount could never get it going against a Farmingdale team that has shown dramatic improvement throughout the 2006 season. The Rams (8-6-2, 3-3 Skyline Conference) went on the offensive from the start registering 14 out of the game's first 15 shots and scoring at 11:30 and 36:18 to take a 2-0 lead into halftime. Farmingdale scored again at 57:16 and cruised to victory, outshooting the Mount, 28-3 for the game. Alessi did everything she could to keep things close, making six saves during the first half and five saves during the final 45 minutes to break a double-digit save total for the fifth time in Skyline Conference play this season.

Mount Saint Vincent - now eliminated from the Skyline Conference post-season picture - will look forward to the Hudson Valley Women's Athletic Conference (HVWAC) playoffs with two non-conference tune-ups this week. On Tuesday, the Dolphins travel to Purchase College, and on Thursday the Mount travels to St. Thomas Aquinas. One win guarantees the Dolphins an above .500 finish during the regular season for the second straight season.
