possession was a draw. The number of corner kicks actually favored Mount Saint Vincent. But thanks to a 10-minute stretch during the second half of Saturday's Women's Soccer match between Mount Saint Vincent and Centenary, the game actually turned into nightmare for the Mount as Centenary scored four times during a 10-minute span to break a 1-0 game wide open en route to a 6-0 Cyclone win. With the loss, Mount Saint Vincent drops to 5-5 overall and 1-4 in the Skyline Conference.
The first half of play was nearly dead-even with Mount Saint Vincent controlling play for much of the early going. For a stretch, it seemed like the Dolphins would take the lead as they had several opportunities to score, but as the first half wound down, the teams were tied at 0. Centenary finally broke through with less than four minutes remaining in the first half with a breakaway goal to take the 1-0 halftime lead.
The second half was a different story as the Cyclones (2-5, 1-2 Skyline Conference) scored at 56:32, 64:41, 66:12, and 67:16 to break the game open. Centenary then added a goal with only 16 seconds remaining for the 6-0 final.
The Cyclones held a 21-16 shot advantage and Mount Saint Vincent took three corner kicks to Centenary's single corner, but it was several breakaways that did the Mount in.
Mount Saint Vincent goalie Alexis Alessi (Rockville Centre, NY/Oceanside HS) gave the Dolphins a valiant game, stopping 10 shots in a losing effort.
