Purchase, N.Y. – The College of Mount Saint Vincent Women's Soccer team was shutout for the third straight game on Thursday afternoon after a 3-0 loss to John Jay. Junior goalie Kara McNish (Hawthorne, N.J.) her solid season for the Dolphins by making five saves against the Bloodhounds.
John Jay opened up a scoreless game with two quick strikes just under two minutes apart late in the first half. Stephanie Ibarra opened the scoring with her second of the season in the 33rd minute and Alexia Ochoa tallied for the fourth time this season in the 35th minute. The two tallies sent the Bloodhounds into the intermission with that same 2-0 lead.
Ochoa added her second goal of the game and fifth of the season in the 66th minute when she finished off a cross from Ibarra on a corner kick. The Dolphins would sustain some pressure late in the match, but would not be able to beat John Jay keeper Marcelina Kopec. She made four saves to earn the shutout victory.
McNish made five saves in the contest, including several from close range to keep the Dolphins in the game. She has now made 73 saves on the season and holds a .624 save percentage.
John Jay held the edge in shots on the afternoon 15-12, with Nicole Flores (Bethpage, N.Y.) totaling four shots for the Dolphins. The Bloodhounds also had the edge in corner kicks 8-6, while fouls in the match were whistled 9-5 against the visitors.
Since Brittany Kehoe (Stony Point, N.Y.) scored in the Mount's 1-0 win over Maritime on September 27 the Dolphins have gone 280:45 without scoring a goal, losing their last three games.
The loss drops Mount Saint Vincent to 2-9 overall on the season. The Dolphins will look to rebound on Saturday evening when they host St. Joseph's-L.I. Kick-off with the Eagles at Icahn Stadium at Randall's Island is set for 6:00 p.m.
