Riverdale, NY - The University of Mount Saint Vincent's men's soccer team earned the fifth seed in the Skyline Conference playoffs, and one of the big reasons behind that push were the collective performances behind a number of key talents on the roster. Said talents were reflected in the Skyline Conference's postseason awards, as six different Dolphins earned spots on each of the two All Conference teams.
The awards are handed out for regular seasons performances throughout the 2024 season.Â
First-year striker
Javier Trujillo took home one of the major awards, as the Rio Rancho, New Mexico native was named 2024 Rookie of the Year, as well as First Team All-Skyline, after finishing second in the conference in scoring, just three goals behind conference Player of the Year Victor Naci of St. Joseph's University Brooklyn. Trujillo continues the trend of UMSV talents to take home the honor, with Dolphins receiving the award in 2022 (Augustus Mciff), 2021 (Carlos Romero) and 2019 (Sory Konate).Â
Junior captain
Donovan Speer joins Trujillo on the Skyline's First Team. It was the second straight season where the Trumbull, Connecticut native earned his spot among the conference's best defenders.Â
The second team featured four different UMSV talents, the most among all schools.Â
Sophomores Sebastian Mesa and
Trevor Pegg went from young upstarts to cornerstone talents and were rewarded in for their strong 2024 seasons.
Amos Bignotti, the team's second scorer behind Trujillo, joined the trio on the Second Team list while goalkeeper
Samuel Reine, who took over in net early in the season, rounded out the group.Â
With all six players slated to return to Riverdale in 2025, the sky is the limit for the the program.Â
