Riverdale, NY - The University of Mount Saint Vincent made it two straight wins to kick off their 2025 season.
The Dolphins played host to Medgar Evers College on Wednesday evening as they looked to capitalize on their season opening victory over John Jay. UMSV did just that, and in grand fashion, as they scored four unanswered goals to walk away with the dominant victory, bringing the team's record to 2-0 to start the year.
The goal scoring happened early and often for head coach
Max Watson's squad. Sophomore
William Sornin continued his strong play, as the reigning Skyline Conference weekly honorable mention selection opened the flood gates with a shot off his right foot to put the UMSV up by one just three minutes into the action. The second-year class continued to shine, with
Javier Trujillo,
Manuel Vidal and
Marti Senyer all burying shot attempts, giving the Dolphins a four goal edge into the break. Trujillo would add assists to his stat line on both Vidal and Senyer goals.
The sophomores continued to put the pressure on the Cougars throughout the second half, as
Luka Gelevski and
David Marquez would each score their first points of 2025 with strikes, while
Brandon Brad Leon put the finishing touches on the win.
The defense, meanwhile, was equally as dominant. A unit led by
Anthony Rochester,
John Brienza,
Barry Jermaine Johnson and
Jacob Greiffenberger shut down the Medgar Evers offense, as they collectively allowed just one shot on goal. That shot attempt was turned away by keeper
Samuel Reine in his lone save of the evening.
The Dolphins will look to keep the momentum in their favor for their first road contest of the season against Lehman on Saturday.
