Riverdale, NY - The Dolphins remain in the playoff picture.
The University of Mount Saint Vincent's men's soccer team was back on the pitch for yet another Skyline Conference matchup, this time against Sarah Lawrence College. The two sides traded leads all game long, but senior
Cesar Mendez's goal in the 86th minute was the difference, as the Dolphins walked away winners by the score of 5-4.
Now at 5-4 against the conference, UMSV is currently in fifth place with just two games left on their 2024 slate.
Freshman
William Sornin got things going for the Dolphins. His strike at the six minute mark was good enough to put the first point on the board, with
Javier Trujillo picking up the helper. The Gryphons would score in two straight chances, but it was Trujillo who added to his team-leading totals, as he would put one past the Sarah Lawrence goalkeeper with just 13 seconds left in the first half.
The scoring surge continued over the final 45 minutes of play. Trujillo would secure his second goal of the game when defender
Trevor Pegg found him streaking down the middle of the field. Sarah Lawrence, however, would answer to bring the score to three apiece.
Trujillo continued his tremendous 2024 campaign when he took home the hat trick to extend the Dolphins lead to one. The Gryphons would answer one more time, but it would be Mendez and his clutch shot attempt in the middle of the box that would give UMSV their 10th win of the season.
Freshman goalkeeper
Samuel Reine made eight saves in net as he faced shots all game long.
The Dolphins will look to keep their playoff hopes alive this weekend in a tilt against Maritime.
