Brooklyn, NY - After nearly a week off, the College of Mount Saint Vincent's softball team returned to the diamond as they continued their build towards conference play with a double header against Brooklyn College on Monday evening. A perfect combination of situational hitting and shutdown pitching resulted in a sweep in favor of CMSV, winning by the combined score of 22-0 to improve their overall record to 11-6.
Today's starters -
Charlotte Kelly and
Katie Hutter - both tossed gems for head coach
Kevin Carbon. Kelly took the hill in game one for the Dolphins, going five strong innings and allowing just three hits with eight strikeouts along the way. Freshman
Savannah Autobee closed the door for CMSV with two no-hit shutout innings. Hutter went the distance in the mercy-ruled game two, striking out eight while allowing just four total base runners in five innings of work.
The Dolphins jumped out to an early 2-0, thanks to a
Jocelyn Vega single and Hutter RBI groundout. Hutter drove in a run in the same fashion in the third inning, which was followed up by a
Shaniya Serrano RBI single to make it a 4-0 game. Vega and
Sabrina Colon would finish things off in the seven for CMSV, with three combined runs between the duo. Vega led the way with three hits in four at-bats while
Simone Caruso had two hits of her own.
Six of the nine starters in game two registered at least one hit, with Caruso, Vega and reigning Skyline Conference Rookie of the Week
Serena Duran had two hits apiece. After Vega and Autobee put the Dolphins on the board in the first, CMSV exploded for four runs in the third and seven runs in the fifth. The offense was highlighted by RBI from Vega, Serrano, Duran,
Nichole Reyes,
Celine Vaughn,
Liana Cabeza and
Ruby Acosta.
The Dolphins will have an extended break before setting their sights on St. Joseph's University Long Island on April 15.
