Purchase, NY - Rain may have pushed the College of Mount Saint Vincent's softball double header from Sunday to Monday, but the Dolphins were ready to rock against Mount Saint Mary on Monday afternoon. Senior
Katie Hutter stole the show in game one with a walk-off, two-run home run to take home the game one victory before the Knights emerged from game two, victorious by the score of 7-2.
While Hutter's moment came at the end of the game, it was freshman
Savannah Autobee who stole the show throughout the early innings. The first-year hurler got the nod from head coach
Kevin Carbon in game one and rewarded him for his decision. The Pueblo, Colorado native went the distance for CMSV, shutting down the Knights offense over the course of nine innings. Autobee threw 107, allowing just one run (none earned) on four hits while striking out just six.
Mount Saint Mary, meanwhile, did their best to match Autobee's efforts. The Dolphins got on the board in the first inning after an error and only had one more hit at the end of regulation. But as the game made its way to extras, the senior duo of Hutter and
Jocelyn Vega got it done. Vega set the tone, singling to center, leading to Hutter's bomb to left center field to give her team the victory.
The offensive woes for the Dolphins carried into game two. Hutter and Vega were the lone CMSV players to drive in runs, while freshman
Nichole Reyes tied for a team-high with two hits. Junior
Charlotte Kelly took the mound and went just four innings, allowing five runs (two earned) on eight hits and a pair of walks.
The split comes off the heels of a Saturday sweep at the hands of Farmingdale State College, arguably the top team in the conference. The split, however, put the Dolphins back in the win column. They're currently 7-3 against Skyline opponents and will look to continue their winning ways on Friday against Yeshiva University.
