Dolphins Split With John Jay In First Games Since Myrtle Beach

New York, NY - The College of Mount Saint Vincent's softball team saw their first action back in New York on Tuesday afternoon, taking on local rival John Jay College in a non-conference double header. The Dolphins impressed in game one, taking home the victory off the backs of the freshmen class by the score of 10-5 before being blanked in game two by seven runs.

The split puts the Dolphins at 7-5 on the season as the team continues to prepare for Skyline Conference play.

As previously mentioned, the lone win of the day was highlighted by a number of first year Dolphins. After falling in an early one run hole, Simone Caruso put CMSV on the board with a fielder's choice to score fellow freshman Madyson Epps to tie things up at one run. The freshmen duo of Savannah Autobee and Viviana Meneses combined to plate three runs later in the inning to put the Dolphins up 4-1. The Bloodhounds continued to chip away, but Kevin Carbon's squad was able to pull away.

Leading 4-3 going into the sixth inning, Caruso once again drove in two runs on a single, followed up by RBI at-bats from first year players Sabrina Colon, Mila Gutierrez and Serena Duran. Speaking of Duran, the Yucaipa, California native came in relief of Charlotte Kelly - who allowed just three runs in 2.1 innings - and picked up her second win of the year. Duran pitched in 4.2 innings for the Dolphins, giving up two earned runs and seven hits while picking up three strikeouts.

Unfortunately, the Dolphins saw a reverse of fortunes in game two. CMSV only registered two hits, thanks to Caruso and Gutierrez, while Ruby Acosta walked twice. Autobee and Gutierrez took the mound for the team and combined for four strikeouts.

The Dolphins will continue to prep for Skyline play this weekend. They'll be back on the road, this time in New Jersey, to take on Saint Elizabeth University in a pair of games on Saturday.
