Dolphins Finish Spring Break Trip With Wins Over SUNY Canton, Keystone College

Myrtle Beach, SC - The College of Mount Saint Vincent's softball team wrapped up their Spring Break trip in a big way on Thursday. The Dolphins took on SUNY Canton and Keystone College in the final day of games and walked away winners in both, defeating the Kangaroos 8-0 before taking down the Giants 10-9.

CMSV finished their Myrtle Beach stay winners in four out of their eight games.

Junior Charlotte Kelly took the mound for the Dolphins in game one against SUNY Canton and furthered her strong start to the 2023 season. Kelly pitched in all five innings for head coach Kevin Carbon, allowing just three hits while blanking the Kangaroos in the run column.

Kelly didn't only get it done on the mound. The junior got things started offensively for her team as well when she drove in both Liana Cabeza and Viviana Meneses with a single through the right side in the second inning. Senior Katie Hutter followed things up in the next inning with an RBI single, and Meneses collected an RBI of her own with a sacrifice fly. Senior Jocelyn Vega put the cherry on top of the victory with a two-run home run to left center field to cap off her three hit day.

The battle with Keystone was a tightly tested affair. Both the Dolphins and Giants would trade leads over the ten inning affair, with CMSV responding to Keystone's runs in the first, third, sixth and tenth innings. Over that span, Vega and freshmen Simone Caruso, Mila Gutierrez, Madyson Epps and Meneses each played a large part in the comeback by either tying the game or giving the Dolphins the lead. This was capped off by Meneses who secured the victory for CMSV with a game winning bases loaded single after Gutierrez tied things up just one at-bat prior.

The offensive success was spread across the lineup, with Vega, Caruso, Gutierrez, Meneses, Epps, Hutter and Savannah Autobee each collecting two hits.

Hutter and Autobee took the mound for the Dolphins in the winning effort and combined for three strikeouts.

The Dolphins return to Riverdale on Thursday evening and will take the weekend off before returning to action on Tuesday in a non-conference double header against John Jay.
