Box Score Newburgh, NY- The CMSV women's lacrosse team faced off against the Mount Saint Mary's College Knights on the road in a Skyline Conference matchup. The Dolphins clicked both offensively and defensively as they defeated the Knights, 18-9.
CMSV took care of the Knights convincingly as they traveled to Kaplan Field, and dominated their opponent. Offensively, the Dolphins nearly doubled the Knights in shot attempts, while doubling them in assists and total goals scored.
The Junior class played a major factor in the Dolphin victory as Junior Ava Starace started the Dolphin offense with an assisted goal from classmate Colleen MacNeil and later in the quarter, Ashley Teal put one past the Knight goalie. The Dolphins led the Knights 4-2 to end the first quarter, following goals from senior Veronica Sevivas and junior standout Alicia Rodriguez.
CMSV took off in the second quarter as they scored six unanswered goals to close the half. Rodriguez started the quarter scoring three straight goals for the Dolphins. Sevivas joined the party putting another goal past the Knight defense followed by another goal for Starace. Rodriguez would end the quarter with a goal to give the Dolphins a 10-2 lead going into the break.
The Dolphins scored two goals in the third quarter as Starace and Rodriguez both added to their totals, as the CMSV led 12-5 to end the third period.
The fourth quarter performance displayed by the Dolphins closed out the Knights. Adding six goals for the quarter would be too much for any chance at a comeback.
Freshman Kainani McConville scored her first goal of her young college career in the late minutes of the contest to give the Dolphins their 18th goal of the day and the victory.
Rodriguez led the Dolphins in scoring with seven goals. Starace (4) and Teal (3) combined for seven to add to their totals, and Sevivas added two of her own.
MacNeil showed her versatility on the offensive end by assisting on six of the Dolphin goals on the day while scoring a goal to add to her impressive total on the year.
The Dolphins look to stay hot as they continue their conference play this week Wednesday, April 13th as they travel to Manhattanville College.
