Dolphins Earn Fifth Seed, Match Up Against Knights In Round One

Riverdale, NY - After yet another successful season for the women's volleyball program, the Dolphins clinched the fifth seed and are set for a road matchup against Mount Saint Mary College in the opening round of the Skyline Conference playoffs. Head coach Courtney Bernstein has now led her team to the postseason in each year since she was appointed the leader of the team.

"I'm proud of the girls this season," Bernstein told CMSVAthletics. "Not every game went the way we hoped but they continued to work hard and push to be better, always looking to improve and correct errors."

The Dolphins sported an overall record of 15-11 this season, while seven of 11 conference matchups.

Despite the lower seeding, the Dolphins' roster boasts a senior class that has a wealth of experience in big games. Senior captain Madison Gale was named Most Outstanding Player of the Skyline Conference Championship when the team won their second Skyline title in program history. Co-captain Rianna RiveraSamantha Schroeder and Dez Brown were key cogs on the championship roster while Lindsay DeBoer, Olivia Kane and Sara Pocas provided valuable minutes throughout both the regular season and postseason.

While the rest of the roster has yet to experience a playoff game with CMSV, they've proved to up for the challenge throughout the duration of 2021. Junior Brianna Ayuso became a key versatile player off the bench for the Dolphins and played in a multitude of roles while Melanieann Broderick, a Division-II transfer, made her presence known this season as a hitter. Isabella Garcia, Elizabeth Flores and Katelynn Fanjul lost their freshmen year due to the coronavirus pandemic but stepped up in their first season on the roster and fit in seamlessly with the existing talent. Then there's Lydia Aryee, a freshman who has seen her playing time increase as the season has gone on and has impressed throughout.

Earlier this season, the Dolphins dropped their only contest against the Knights in five sets on the Peter Jay Sharp Center court. The back and forth affair during the regular season will make for a fanstastic first round matchup.

And for Coach Bernstein, this Tuesday's matchup will see the stakes increased on a personal level.

"Heading into the game, I know the girls are hungry and feel like they have something to prove. It's a really important game for me, too," Bernstein continued. "This is the first time this team will be traveling to my alma mater under me and for it to he a playoff game makes it even more special."
