Bayside, NY - On Saturday, April 13, the Dolphins traveled to nearby Queens to compete in the Queensborough Relays. It truly was a historic day for the young track program as they recorded it first individual victory of the season. Senior cross country star
Lauramae Cocchi competing in her second 1500 meter race of her collegiate career. Cocchi paced to a first place finish in a time of 5:18.88, breaking her own school record in the process. Cocchi's victory marks the first ever victory for a Dolphin track athlete. Cocchi's day was not over, she teamed up with Emma Riano,
Catherine Jones and
Maiya Foster-Daniels to claim victory in the women's sprint medley relay.
The women had many notable performances throughout the day.
Selena Colon set the CMSV record in the 10,000 meters, completing the 25 lap race in a time of 48:04. Foster-Daniels showed her mid-distance range by breaking the CMSV 400 meter record in a time of 1:06.41. The Lady Dolphins depth for on full display competing in the 4x100, 4x200, 4x400, as well as the sprint medley relay.
The men's squad had a another solid day on the track.
Brendan Ryan traded his volleyball uniform for a track singlet and made a immediate impact. Ryan ran a CMSV best time of 4:43.69 in the 1500 meter, good enough for 6th place overall.
Mark Mofus continued his strong season, Mofus ran a season best 11.98 in the 100 meter to claim the CMSV record.
The Dolphins are off this weekend. They return to action on Sunday, April 28 to participate in the second ever Skyline Conference Outdoor Track Championship. The team will square up against St. Joseph's Long Island, USMMA, Farmingdale State and Mount Saint Mary College. The first event for the Phins goes off at 12:00 PM at Farmingdale State College.
