Box Score Brooklyn, NY - The College of Mount Saint Vincent's women's basketball team hit the road for the second straight Skyline Conference matchup when they traveled to Brooklyn to take on the Bears of St. Joseph's College. Despite an impressive comeback attempt in the second half of play, a clutch three pointer and two free throws were ultimately the demise of the Dolphins, losing by the score of 79-76.
The first quarter saw the Dolphins struggle on the offensive end, as they scored just 12 points, going five for 15 from the floor and trailed at the conclusion of the quarter by seven. But head coach Phil Stern and CMSV executed their game plan throughout the final quarter of the half. The Dolphins shot 50%, both from the floor and beyond the arc, and outscored their opponents by three while simultaneously causing 10 Bears turnovers.
The final 20 minutes of play saw competitive back and forth basketball, something that has become a theme this season for the Dolphins. Trailing by 15 at one point, CMSV was able to climb back into things off the back of DarNeisha Brice, who was on fire throughout the whole contest. Despite hitting two key three pointers and assisting on an Ashley Martin layup to keep the team in it with seconds to spare, St. Joe's was able to walk away with the victory after converting two clutch free throws and a turnover as time expired.
It was one again Brice who was a bright spot for the Dolphins, scoring an eye-popping 43 points while adding four assists and two steals, one of the best individual performances by a women's basketball player in recent memory. Dez Brown in her first game of the season with 10 points and five rebounds off the bench. Martin once again dominated the boards with a team-high eight rebounds while Aria Rheams and Virginia Olvera both paced the team with four steals apiece.
Despite the loss, the Dolphins remain above .500 with an overall record of 3-2 and a conference mark of 1-1. The team will look to get back to their winning ways a week from tonight when they travel to Patchogue to take on St. Joseph's College-Long Island.
