Full Bracket
PROVIDENCE, RI - The CMSV Wrestling team returned to the mat on Sunday, as the team traveled to the campus of Johnson & Wales University to compete in the Wildcat Open. The Dolphins sent six wrestlers to compete in five weight classes.
Sophomore
Connor Hay (133lb) was the top performer for the Mount, as the Miller Place native placed 5th in the 133lb bracket. After receiving a bye in the first round, Hay advanced to matchup against Jay Albis of Johnson & Wales, where he was pinned by the eventual 1st place finisher in 1:38. Now in the wrestlebacks, Hay rattled off four victories in a row, two of which came via pins, before falling in the wrestleback semifinals to Theodore Powers of Brown. Hay bounced back in the 5th place match making quick work of Ryan Cabezas of Castleton University, pinning him in 1:03.
Of the five remaining Dolphins entered in the competition, four earned one victory. With
Jakob Cala (125lb) going 1-2 with a 16-1 technical fall victory over Alexander Petersen of RPI. In the match following his victory over Petersen, Cala was pinned in the final 30 seconds of the match, which eliminated him from the competition.
Michael Foca (141lb) also went 1-2, with his lone victory coming via an 8-4 decision over Matt Langan of LIU-Post. Foca was eliminated by eventual 6th place finisher Tom Pagliarulo of Plymouth State.
David Bell (174lb) received two byes but was unsuccessful in his two matches, dropping first to 174lb champion Michael Gargano of Johnson & Wales.
Justin Hansel and
Harryson Myrtil both wrestled at 285lbs, with Hansel first earning a bye, then pinning his opponent Mason Osborn of Castleton in just 52 seconds. He dropped his next decision to Jenard Rosemond of American International, who would eventually take 4th place. Myril also received an opening round bye, but was then defeated by Monair McDonald of LIU-Post. In the wrestlebacks, the Central Islip native pinned Jose Gandarilla of RPI in 4:21 before being pinned by Adonis Toribio.
