RIVERDALE, NY - The CMSV Wrestling team returned to the mat on Wednesday afternoon, hosting Bergen Community College in a dual match.
This is the second straight season these two programs have met in a wrestling dual. The Dolphins won seven of the eight contested matches to earn a 36-6 victory over their NJCAA counterparts.
The Mount started off with a 12 point advantage before the first match was wrestled, as
Jakob Cala (125lb) and
Cristian Hilario (141lb) won via forfeit.
Michael Foca then hit the mat, facing off at 149lb against Matthew Caban. Foca controlled the match from the start, earning eight points in the first period alone. Foca would end the match in the second period, after getting ahead 16-1 near the end of the period with a 2pt take down to earn a technical fall win, he was awarded one riding time point, to put the Dolphins up 17-0.
Patrick Polintan (165lb) and
David Bell (174lb) both won their matches via forfeit giving CMSV another 12 points.
At 184lb, Michael Buhlmann squared off against Curtis Green. Buhlmann controlled the match right away earning 12 points in the first period alone, four coming via take down and one with a four point near fall. Buhlmann would earn four more points in the second period, and win a major decision 16-4.
Eric Fiorino earned six points for Bergen winning via forfeit at 197lb.
In the final match,
Justin Hansel took on Steven Hankin at 285lb. This match would go the distance, with very little action in the first period. Things picked up in the second however, with Hansel earning two escape points and one for stalling by his opponent, to lead 3-2 at the end of two. In the third, Hansel secured the victory with a late 2pt take down to turn a 3-3 tie to a 6-3 victory, with an added riding time point.
Match Note: No wrestlers for either team competed at 133lb and 157lb.
