BRONX, N.Y. (Sept. 29, 2015) – The College of Mount St. Vincent men's soccer team lost to Skyline Conference rival Old Westbury, 3-2, on Tuesday night at the Athletic Field at Marillac. The loss drops the Dolphins to 4-5-2 (0-2-2 Skyline) on the season, while the Panthers improve to 2-7 (2-1 Skyline).

Old Westbury got on the board first in the fifth minute, when sophomore Dominick Guidice took a pass near midfield and charged up the near side, blasting past a defender near the top of the box and firing a shot low into the right corner of the net.

Mount St. Vincent found the equalizer in the 23rd minute, when sophomore Andrew Gomez (Sun City, Calif.) found the back of the net on a sharp shot from the right side of the box off of a great cross from midfield by junior Alexi Aguilar (Los Angeles, Calif.). The score would remain tied into halftime, despite Mount out-shooting the visitors, 12-4, in the opening 45.

In the second half, the Dolphins went ahead in the 47th minute on a goal by freshman Jorge Quinones (North Las Vegas, Nev.), assisted by Victor Ramirez, but the Panthers tied it up less than two minutes later on a tally by junior Jon Kerby. 17 minutes later, Old Westbury would grab a 3-2 lead after scoring on a free kick after a foul just outside the near side of the 18-yard box. Freshman Eric Ragogna ripped the kick into the left side of the net.

The Panthers' senior keeper Peter Sicardi stepped up for the visitors down the stretch, as Old Westbury had to play the last 17 minutes down a man due to a red card. Sicardi turned aside all four Dolphin shots on goal to secure the victory.

In goal for Mount, junior David Melchor (Los Angeles, Calif.) made one save, while his counterpart for Old Westbury, Sicardi, was kept busy on the night, making 10 saves.

Up next, the Dolphins will travel to Brooklyn, N.Y., on Thursday night, Oct. 1, to face new Skyline Conference rival, St. Joseph's College of Brooklyn. Opening kickoff is scheduled for 7 p.m. at the Aviator Sports & Events Center. Live stats will be available by following this link.
