Nicole Henderson (Bergenfield, N.J.), the College of Mount Saint Vincent Women's Volleyball team rallied for a 23-25, 14-25, 25-21, 25-22, 15-9 win over Arcadia before posting a 25-22, 25-21, 25-21 victory over William Paterson. The victories are the first two in head coach
Carlos Aponte's collegiate career.
After falling behind 2-0 against Arcadia to open the day, the Mount posted 35 kills over the final three sets, including 15 in the fourth frame to rally for its first win of the season. Arcadia committed just eight attack errors over the first two frames in building the lead, but was forced into 17 miscues over the last three stanzas.
Scozzari led the Mount Saint Vincent offensive attack in the win with 25 kills, while hitting an efficient .367 in the contest. She chipped in with five total blocks and three digs for the Dolphins. Classmate
Zana Daluz (Pawtucket, R.I.) reached double-figures in kills for the second time in her career, posting a career best 13 kills to go along with eight digs and three blocks.
Henderson posted a career-high in assists for Mount Saint Vincent in the win, handing out 48 helpers in the victory. She rounded out a double-double with four kills, 10 digs, three blocks and a pair of service aces. Junior
Maria Leineweber (Waimanalo, Hawaii) finished off a strong all-around match with 12 winners, seven digs, three blocks and a match-high four service aces. Freshman
Chrissy Sewell (Yorba Linda, Calif.) rounded out the day with a match-high 24 digs for the Dolphins.
Arcadia received strong performances from Makenna Micklus who posted a team-high 16 kills to go along with 14 digs. Elizabeth Joseph posted 13 kills and six total blocks, while Keyla Resh lifted a team-high 22 digs. Alexia Bell contributed six digs and a 45 assists for the Knights.
For the match, Mount Saint Vincent finished with a 58-49 advantage in kills while hitting .200 as a team. The Dolphins also posted a 9-7 edge in service aces, but Arcadia held the advantage in total team blocks 10-8.
In the second match of the day, the Dolphins battled past William Paterson for its second victory of the day. The Dolphins posted at least 15 kills in each of the three sets against the Pioneers, including 18 in the opening stanza. Scozzari put away nine winners in the opening set and hit .562 to get the Dolphins out to the early one set advantage.
Mount Saint Vincent found itself trailing 20-19 in the second frame, before scoring six of the final eight points to surge past the Pioneers for a 2-0 lead in the contest. In the third set, the Mount trailed again late, before closing on a 6-1 run to finish of the match. Scozzari picked up three kills down the stretch to support the victory.
Scozzari posted at least 20 kills in a match for the third straight outing, posting 23 against the Pioneers. She hit .365 against William Paterson, adding five block assists. Daluz reached double-figures in kills for the second straight match, posting 12 winners against the Pioneers to go along with five digs.
Henderson handed out 40 assists in a match for the third straight outing, finishing with 43 helpers against the Pioneers. She added seven digs and a pair of blocks in the win. Leineweber equaled the team-high with 16 digs, adding six kills and three digs.
Sewell joined Leineweber with 16 digs in the match, with senior
Jennifer Roman (Queens Village, N.Y.) finishing the tilt with eight digs and pair of service aces.
William Paterson was paced by 13 kills from Erin Roach, while Julianna Ginefra lifted a match-high 24 digs. Kendall Caruso rounded out the match with 26 assists and seven digs.
Mount Saint Vincent finished the match with a 48-31 edge in kills, while William Paterson recorded four of the seven service aces in the match. Total team blocks in the contest went the way of the Dolphins by a 5-3 count.
With two wins on Saturday, Mount Saint Vincent moves to 2-6 overall on the season. The Dolphins will look to build on Saturday's momentum on September 19 when they take on CCNY and FDU-Florham in Madison, N.J. Matches are set to get underway at 12:00 p.m. for the Mount.
