Old Westbury, N.Y. – The College of Mount Saint Vincent Women's Lacrosse team dropped its fifth straight decision on Wednesday with a 16-6 Skyline Conference road loss at Old Westbury. Sophomore Shannon Steimel (Shoreham, N.Y.) and freshman Kayla Carigliano (Clarkstown, N.Y.) each scored three times for the Dolphins.
 
Mount Saint Vincent got on the board first on Wednesday when Stiemel gave the Dolphins and early 1-0 lead with her 12th goal of the season a minute into the contest. Old Westbury answered 12 seconds later on a goal from Halle Johnson that started a 5-0 run for the Panthers that pushed them in front 5-1.
 
Steimel notched her second goal of the game at the 14:08 mark of the first half to bring the Dolphins to within 5-2 and Carigliano tallied for the first time on the day with just under two minutes left before halftime to get the Dolphins to within 6-3 at the break.
 
Old Westbury outshot the Mount 22-6 before the intermission and also held the edge in groundballs 21-12 and draw controls 6-4. The Dolphins turned the ball over 16 times in the first half and went 4-for-11 in clearing chances.
 
Mount Saint Vincent was not able to string together consecutive goals in the second half and saw Old Westbury net the first four goals of the period to take a 10-3 lead with 24:29 left in regulation. Carigliano scored twice for the Dolphins after the break, but the Panthers scored 10 of the 13 goals in the period to pull away for the final 10 goal decision.
 
Steimel totaled five points in the game to lead the Dolphins, adding a pair of assists to her three goals. Carigliano won a pair of draw controls and picked up a groundball, while sophomore Ardiana Mehmetaj (North Salem, N.Y.) won five draw controls and scooped four groundballs. Mehmetaj and Kelly Fraser (Staten Island, N.Y.) each recorded an assist in the game.
 
Old Westbury was led by five goals from Emily Powell and got a goal and four helpers from Courtney Gallagher. The Panthers had seven different goals scorers in the game, with Gallagher and Sara Bey each picking up six groundballs. Bey won a game-high seven draw controls on the day for Old Westbury.
 
Senior Kacie McCormack (Mahopac, N.Y.) suffered the loss in goal for the Dolphins and finished the game with a season-high 20 saves and a team-high five groundballs. Ashley Gugliuzzo earned the win for Old Westbury, stopping six shots.
 
Old Westbury finished the game with 51-15 advantage in shots and a 36-12 edge in shots on goal. The Panthers won the groundball battle 42-23 and won 14 of the 24 draw controls taken.
 
Wednesday's loss drops Mount Saint Vincent to 1-7 overall on the season and to 0-3 in Skyline Conference play. The Dolphins will return to action on Saturday when they travel to league rival Mount Saint Mary. Opening Draw with the Knights is scheduled for 12:00 p.m.
