Women’s Lacrosse Snaps Skid, Tops Maritime On Senior Day

Fraser posts eight points in shortened game

Riverdale, N.Y. – In a shortened game on Saturday afternoon, the College of Mount Saint Vincent Women's Lacrosse team stopped its eight game losing streak with a 14-5 victory over Maritime in the 2015 season finale. Sophomore Shannon Steimel (Shoreham, N.Y.) scored five goals in the game and senior Kelly Fraser (Staten Island, N.Y.) posted eight points.
 
Mount Saint Vincent raced out to a 5-0 lead inside the first seven minutes of play on Saturday, getting a goal from Fraser and two goals each from Kayla Carigliano (Clarkstown, N.Y.) and Steimel. Fraser assisted on two goals over the opening run for the Dolphins.
 
Maritime got two of the next three goals to cuts its deficit to 6-2, but could not pull closer than four goals the remainder of the day. The Dolphins scored five of the final seven goals of the contest, including three goals and an assist from Fraser of the final 14:24 of the tilt.
 
Steimel tallied five times for the Mount and added a groundball, while Fraser scored four times and assisted on four other goals. Her eight points give her the team lead in category with 36 and the mark is three points shy of the single game record for the Dolphins.
 
Carigliano scored twice and picked up three groundballs with freshman Fallan Gwynne (Toms River, N.J.) picking up a team-high four groundballs. Ardiana Mehmetaj (North Salem, N.Y.) closed the day with five draw controls and a goal.
 
Senior Kacie McCormack (Mahopac, N.Y.) picked up the win in goal for the Mount Saint Vincent with six saves and a groundball. Christina Finnen made five stops for Maritime.
 
Mount Saint Vincent finished the game with a 23-14 advantage in shots, a 13-11 edge in groundballs and a 12-8 edge in draw controls. The Dolphins went 8-for-9 in clearing chances on Saturday.
 
With the win, Mount Saint Vincent finishes the 2015 season at 2-10 overall and at 1-6 in Skyline Conference play.
 
Game Note: Saturday's game was stopped with 54 seconds left in the first half due to injury and a roster below the minimum to continue.
