Hillburn, N.Y. – The College of Mount Saint Vincent Women's Lacrosse team suffered its seventh straight defeat on Tuesday afternoon following a 21-6 Skyline Conference loss to Purchase. Three Dolphins scored two goals in the game and senior Catherine Maas (West Hartford, Conn.) posted two assists.
 
After falling behind 3-0, the Dolphins battled back to get within 3-2 and 4-3 before Purchase ran off five of the last six goals of the half to carry a 9-4 lead into halftime on Tuesday. Freshman Gabby Bravo (Staten Island, N.Y.) scored twice in the opening period, with Maas helping on both tallies.
 
Purchase held a 16-10 advantage in shots before halftime and held a slim 16-15 advantage in groundballs. Draw controls were even at seven in the opening 30 minutes.
 
The Dolphins scored two of the first three goals of the second half to pull to within 10-6 with 24:40 left in regulation time. Following a Zoe Hines goal for Purchase to open the scoring after halftime, Rachel Steimel (Shoreham, N.Y.) and Kelly Fraser (Staten Island, N.Y.) scored a minute apart for the only two Mount Saint Vincent tallies in the second half.
 
Following Fraser's goal 5:20 into the second period, Purchase reeled off the last 11 goals of the game to close out the scoring. Hines scored four times in the second half for the visitors and added two assists.
 
Bravo, Steimel and Fraser all finished the game with two goals for the Dolphins in the game with Steimel pacing the Dolphins with five groundballs and three caused turnovers. Ardiana Mehmetaj (North Salem, N.Y.) led the Mount with six draw controls and collected four groundballs. Kayla Carigliano (Clarkstown, N.Y.) and Erin Maloney (Staten Island, N.Y.) chipped in with four and three draw controls, respectively.
 
Purchase featured a trio of players with five goals, including Hines who closed the game with nine points. Samantha Rich finished with five goals and an assist and Kelly Turtell closed the day with five goals and seven points. Rich led all players with 10 draw controls, seven groundballs and four caused turnovers.
 
Senior goalie Kacie McCormack (Mahopac, N.Y.) took the loss for Mount Saint Vincent, making nine saves in the game and adding a groundball. Caitlin Sosa earned the win for Purchase with 10 saves and a pair of groundballs.
 
The visiting Panthers finished the game with a 35-18 advantage in shots and a 30-16 edge in shots on goal. Purchase won the groundball battle 33-19, while the Mount held a slim 15-14 edge in draw controls.
 
Following Tuesday's loss, Mount Saint Vincent falls to 1-9 overall on the season and to 0-5 in Skyline Conference play. The Dolphins will return to action on Saturday when they play host to conference foe Sage.
