Mount Saint Vincent Travels To Farmingdale State Looking For First Ever NCAA Berth

Dolphins make second straight appearance in conference championship game

Riverdale, N.Y. – After defeating Sage on Thursday night in the Skyline Conference Tournament semifinals, the College of Mount Saint Vincent Women's Basketball team will head to top seeded Farmingdale State on Saturday afternoon looking for its first Skyline Conference Championship. The contest is scheduled for 3:30 p.m. with Live Stats and Video available for those who cannot attend the game.
 
History
Mount Saint Vincent makes its second straight trip to the conference championship game after topping Sage 69-61 on Thursday night at the Peter Jay Sharp Center. The Dolphins were edged by the Gators in last year's title tilt in Albany by a score of 61-55.
 
To advance to its first ever championship game last season, Mount Saint Vincent went on the road to beat top seed Farmingdale State in the semifinal round by a score of 76-59. Kelly Fraser (Staten Island, N.Y.) led all scorers in the game with 28 points to go along with 21 rebounds.
 
A Look At The Mount
Mount Saint Vincent enters Saturday's game at 21-5 overall and has produced the most wins in a season since going 21-7 during the 2007-08 campaign. The Dolphins have won eight straight games and have not lost since dropping a 59-53 home decision to Farmingdale State on February 3.
 
Fraser is averaging a double-double for the Dolphins, scoring 17.4 points per game and hauling in just under 12 rebounds per night. She is shooting 50.6-percent from the floor during the 2014-15 season and has totaled a team-high 49 blocked shots to go along with 34 assists and 52 steals.
 
Sophomore Christina Barone (Staten Island, N.Y.) is posting 13.3 points and 7.5 assists per night for the Dolphins, raking first in the conference in assists and second on the team in scoring. She has played a team-high 790 minutes heading into Saturday's game and is tops on the squad in free-throw percentage at 73.0. Barone is a 40.2-percent shooter overall through 26 games and is converting at a 33.7-percent rate from behind the three-point arc.
 
Brittany Carroll (Staten Island, N.Y.) rounds out a trio of Dolphins averaging double-figures in scoring, netting 12.2 points per night. She leads the team with 64 three-point field goals made and is the team's leader in three-point field goal percentage at 37.0. Carroll is converting at a 68.8-percent clip from the free-throw line and has totaled 53 assists and 28 steals heading into Saturday's action.
 
Through Thursday's semifinal, Mount Saint Vincent is outscoring its opponents by 19.9 points per game and is shooting 41-percent from the floor as a unit. The Dolphins are plus 3.6 on the glass for the season and plus 5.4 in turnover margin.
 
Scouting Farmingdale State
The Rams completed a perfect 12-0 regular season against Skyline Conference opponents to earn the top seed in the conference tournament and advanced to the finals with a hard fought 46-43 win over Mount Saint Mary on Thursday night.
 
Andrea Desvignes paced Farmingdale State with 16 points and hit the game winning three-point field goal as time expired to advance the Rams to the final. The Rams made just two triples the entire night, but secured 12 offensive rebounds leading to a 7-0 edge in second chance scoring.
 
Desvignes, the Skyline Conference Player of the Year, leads the Rams in scoring at 18.8 points per game and is averaging a team-high 35.2 minutes per night. Desvignes also leads the Rams in assists with 92 and steals with 102. Nailah Cherry paces the team with 6.5 rebounds per game with Marlaina Sherman blocking a team-high 73 shots.
 
Farmingdale State is forcing 21.9 turnovers per game through Thursday's tilt and is outscoring its opponents by 1.4 points per game. Farmingdale State is shooting 32.4-percent from the floor as a team and 26.2-percent from three-point range.
 
How The Dolphins Advanced
Mount Saint Vincent avenged its title game loss at Sage last season on Thursday night with a 69-61 semifinal victory over the Gators. The Dolphins secured 20 offensive rebounds in the game and forced 24 Sage turnovers leading to a 14-7 edge in second chance scoring and a 16-13 advantage in points off of miscues.
 
Barone led a trio of Dolphins in double-figures with a game-high 23 points on the strength of a 13-for-19 effort from the free-throw line. She hauled in seven rebounds, handed out six assists and swiped five steals in the game for the Dolphins.
 
Fraser chipped in with 19 points and led the team with nine rebounds after going 9-for-18 from the field. Carroll contributed 11 points, knocking down three of the team's nine three-point field goals in the contest.
 
What's Next
The winner of Saturday's game earns the conference's automatic bid into the NCAA Tournament. A Mount Saint Vincent victory gives the program its first ever berth to the national tournament, while a Farmingdale State victory gives the Rams their third conference title since 2010.
