Glenside, Pa. - The College of Mount Saint Vincent Women's Volleyball team dropped a straight set non-conference decision on Saturday afternoon by scores of 18-25, 23-25 and 17-25 at Arcadia. Sophomore
Maria Leineweber (Waimanalo, Hawaii) finished with a team-high 10 kills for the Dolphins.
Mount Saint Vincent never led in the first set on Saturday and hit -.029 as a team. After an Arcadia miscue brought the Mount to within 11-9, the Knights closed the set on a 14-9 spurt to move in front 1-0 in the match. Leineweber posted three of the team's seven kills in the frame.
In the second set, Mount Saint Vincent used a four point run to pull in front 11-8 on a kill from
Zana Daluz (Pawtucket, R.I.) and a three point spurt to take a 16-12 lead on a block from
Ashleigh Scozzari (New Rochelle, N.Y.) and
Nichole Riehm (Irvington, N.Y.).
Arcadia would respond with 13-7 run to close out the set and take a two set advantage. After pulling in front 16-12, the Dolphins would not score consecutive points, while the Knights used a 5-0 stretch to surge in front. Scozzari hit .333 in the set, posting five kills.
The Dolphins jumped out to a 7-2 lead in the third set, but the home standing Knights used a 13-7 run to take a 15-14 lead. After the Dolphins tied the score at 15-15 on a kill from Riehm, Arcadia closed out the match with a 10-2 run.
Leineweber was the only Dolphin to reach double-figures in kills on the day, posting her 10 winners and hitting .222. She added four digs and a pair of total blocks for the Mount. Scozzari put away nine kills for Mount Saint Vincent, adding a team-high 15 digs and four total blocks.
Freshman
Nicole Henderson (Bergenfield, N.J.) handed out 23 assists for the Dolphins and lifted four digs, while Riehm finished up with four winners and four total blocks.
Jennifer Roman (Queens Village, N.Y.) and
Kristine Javier (Fair Lawn, N.J.) added nine and eight digs, respectively.
Natalie Cadmus rounded out the day with a match-high 15 kills for Arcadia to go along with 10 digs. Alexia Bell posted a match-high 32 assists and lifted 11 digs, while Sami Evans totaled a match-high 25 digs.
For the match, Arcadia held a 37-27 advantage in kills and an 8-2 edge in service aces. The Dolphins closed the match with a 7-4 advantage in total team blocks.
Saturday's loss drops Mount Saint Vincent to 3-9 overall on the season. The Dolphins will be back in action on Sunday when they return home to host the Culinary Institute of America. Match time at the Peter Jay Sharp Center is set for 1:00 p.m.
