Men’s Soccer Rallies Past CCNY To Open New Athletic Field At Marillac

Jardines scores three goals, Reyes adds five points

Riverdale, N.Y. – 2013 Skyline Conference Rookie of the Year Kevin Jardines (South Gate, Calif.) scored three times and added an assist and newcomer Dennis Reyes (Waldiwck, N.J.) added two tallies and an assist as the College of Mount Saint Vincent Men's Soccer team rallied for a 5-4 win over CCNY on Saturday. The contest marked the first ever outdoor event on campus.
 
Mount Saint Vincent found itself trailing by two goals on two occasions in the first half on Saturday, with visiting CCNY jumping out to leads of 2-0 and 3-1. The first goal of the game came in the opening minute when Matthew Mbamelu converted a penalty kick just 41 seconds into the tilt. The lead was doubled in the 23rd minute when Anthony Scarallo headed in a feed from Cesar Augusto Bullon off a corner kick.
 
The Dolphins would get on the board just 35 seconds later when Jardines scored his first of three first half goals off a pass from Jaime Salazar (Long Beach, Calif.) at 24:02. Following the Jardines marker, CCNY would strike just 29 seconds later to retake a two goal advantage at 3-1. Daniel Amador got the goal for the Beavers off a rebound.
 
Following the Amador marker, Mount Saint Vincent would rip off three straight goals to take a 4-3 lead into halftime. Jardines got his second of the afternoon in the 36th minute on a pass from Andrew Gomez (Sun City, Calif.) before Reyes knotted the score at 3-3 in the in the 39th minute off a feed from Salazar. The Dolphins would go on to gain their first lead of the game in the 44th minute when Jardines knocked a free ball around the keeper and scored into a yawning goal at the 43:27 mark.
 
The Dolphins would hold on to the one goal advantage until  Mbamelu converted his second of the game in the 76th minute while the Beavers were a man down to tie the score at 4-4. He tucked a shot from outside the box under the bar for the equalizer at 75:36.
 
The Mount would respond again and take the lead for good in the 82nd minute when Reyes potted his second of the game and his first career game winner. He tucked a ball inside the left post off a passing play from Gomez and Jardines to send the Mount to the season opening victory.

Jaridnes closed the day with seven points in the game to go along with five shots. Reyes led the team with seven shots on the day and picked up his five points on two goals and an assist. Salazar and Gomez each closed the day with two assists for the Dolphins.
 
Sophomore David Melchor picked up the win for Mount Saint Vincent in goal after making seven saves in the contest. Maxwell Berkow got the start and made seven saves with Felipe Maidana suffering the loss after making four stops, but allowing the game winner.
 
The Dolphins outshot the Beavers 25-21 in the game, while CCNY took an 8-7 advantage in corner kicks on the day.
 
With the win, Mount Saint Vincent stands at 1-0 on the season. The Dolphins will be back in action again on Tuesday when they play host to Eastern. Kick-off at the Athletic Field at Maricllac is scheduled for 4:00 p.m.
