Dolphins Head To Top Seeded Farmingdale State To Open Skyline Tournament Play

Senior Laura Carr leads the Mount in assists and groundballs heading into Wednesday's action

Riverdale, N.Y. – The College of Mount Saint Vincent Women's Lacrosse team will make its first appearance in the Skyline Conference Tournament since 2011 season on Wednesday when it travels to top seeded Farmingdale State. History
Mount Saint Vincent last appeared in the Skyline Conference Tournament during the 2011 season when it fell on the road at Kean by a score of 21-16. Current assistant coach Lauren Perla scored five goals in the game for the Dolphins and added three groundballs.
 
Prior to the two year absence from the conference tournament, Mount Saint Vincent qualified for the event for six straight seasons from 2006-11. The Dolphins will be looking for their first ever win in the league tournament on Wednesday, holding a 0-6 all-time record.
 
A Look At The Dolphins
Mount Saint Vincent enters Wednesday's contest with the Rams winners of two of its last three regular season contests, including important conference victories over Old Westbury and Purchase. In a 17-10 win over Old Westbury, junior Kelly Fraser (Staten Island, N.Y.)  scored six times and Kacie McCormack (Mahopac, N.Y.) made 13 saves and against Purchase freshman Shannon Steimel (Shoreham, N.Y.) posted four points and Fraser scored five times in a 10-7 victory.
 
Fraser leads the Dolphins in scoring through 13 games this season, registering a team-high 34 goals and 40 points to date. She has scored at least two goals in a game for the Mount on nine occasions in 2014. Senior Laura Carr (Franklin Square, N.Y.) is the Mount's leader in assists with 11 and groundballs with 43. She has totaled 20 points this season heading into Wednesday's action.
 
Senior Colleen Walsh (Manchester, Vt.) has paced the defense for Mount Saint Vincent thus far with a team-high 26 caused turnovers and newcomer Jessica McAllister (Floral Park, N.Y.) is tops on the team in draw controls with 36. McCormack has recorded each of the Mount's five wins in goal in 2014, playing 756 minutes between the pipes and registering 143 saves.
 
Scouting Farmingdale State
Farmingdale State posted a 16-1 overall record and a perfect 7-0 mark in Skyline Conference play during the 2014 regular season. After dropping a non-conference game to Montclair State on March 20, the Rams won the final 10 regular season games on their schedule.
 
Nicole Marzocca leads the Farmingdale State scoring attack heading into Wednesday's contest after posting 95 points on the strength of 54 goals and 41 assists through 17 games. Christy Thoden also put together a strong season with 69 points after scoring 39 goals and assisting on 30 others. Thoden paces the team in groundballs (58), draw controls (129) and caused turnovers (42).
 
On defense, Krista Spagnoletta played in 15 games, making 14 starts in goal for the Rams. She played 766:02 between the pipes and registered 129 saves for Farmingdale State, posting a 13-1 record.
 
Last Meeting
The Dolphins and Rams last hooked up on April 2 with Farmingdale State scoring a 16-8 road win at Tibbetts Brook Park in Yonkers, N.Y. Kelly Geheran and Lisa Olen each scored three times for Farmingdale State with Thoden and Brittany Rosino each recording three assists. Rosino led the way with six groundballs and Thoden won eight draw controls. Georgia Kalamidas made eight saves in goal to earn the victory.
 
Mount Saint Vincent was led by two goals each from Fraser and Walsh with Walsh picking up a team-high three groundballs. Carr added a goal, two groundballs and two draw controls for the Mount on the day. McCormack took the loss in goal, stopping 11 shots.
 
Overall in the game, Farmingdale State held the edge in shots 35-20, groundballs 27-18 and draw controls 22-4.
 
The Series
Since 2005, the two teams have hooked up 10 times with Farmingdale State holding a 6-4 record. The Dolphins last win over the Rams came six years ago today, when the Mount scored a 13-11 win on April 23, 2008.
 
Mount Saint Vincent closed the regular season with a 5-8 overall record and a 3-4 mark in Skyline Conference play.
