Kelly Fraser (Staten Island, N.Y.), the College of Mount Saint Vincent Women's Lacrosse team snapped a three game losing skid with a 17-10 home league win over Old Westbury on Saturday. Senior
Laura Carr (Franklin Square, N.Y.) supported the win with three points for the Dolphins.
Mount Saint Vincent jumped out to a quick 3-0 lead in the first 10 minutes on Saturday, but after a Fraser goal at the 20:16 mark of the first half, went nearly eight minutes before scoring again. Fraser scored twice in the opening run and
Shannon Steimel (Shoreham, N.Y.) added her ninth goal of the season.
Fraser scored her third goal of the game at the 12:36 mark of the first half before the Dolphins scored three straight times in the final five minutes of the half to take a 7-2 lead into halftime.
Jessica McAllister (Floral Park, N.Y.) scored twice over the final spurt for the Mount and
Melina Mezzanotte (Shirley, N.Y.) added her 18
th goal of the season with 1:38 left in the half.
Coming out of halftime, Old Westbury sliced into the Mount Saint Vincent lead with four of the first six goals of the second half. Courtney Gallagher scored three times for the Panthers as they pulled to within 9-6 with 17:21 left in regulation.
Carr and
Gabriella Astorino (Warwick, N.Y.) scored consecutive goals to push the Dolphins' lead to 11-6, but Old Westbury strung together a 4-1 spurt to move to within 12-10 with 8:41 remaining in the tilt. Gallagher scored three more times over the run for Old Westbury, including her 23
rd goal of the season to finish off the scoring for the Panthers at the 8:41 mark.
Clinging to a two goal lead, Mount Saint Vincent secured the win with the final five goals of the contest. Fraaser added her fifth and sixth goals of the game in last 5:43 of regulation and McAllister potted her ninth goal of the season with 1:49 left to seal the victory.
Fraser moved her team leading goal total to 27 with her production on Saturday and added five groundballs and a caused turnover. McAllister scored three times for the Dolphins and led the team with five draw controls.
Carr rounded out the game with two goals and an assist to go along with eight groundballs, four draw controls and four caused turnovers.
Samantha Ramsden (Warren, R.I.) picked up six groundballs and caused three turnovers and
Colleen Walsh (Manchester, Vt.) added a groundball and a caused turnover.
Kaitlyn Gaynor (Island Park, N.Y.) picked up two groundballs and Astorino added a groundball and a caused turnover to her scoring output.
Kacie McCormack (Mahopac, N.Y.) recorded the win in goal for Mount Saint Vincent after making 13 saves. Jackie Cartagena also played a solid game for Old Westbury with 15 stops.
Saturday's win moves Mount Saint Vincent to 4-7 overall and to 2-4 in Skyline Conference play. The Dolphins will be back in action again on Monday when they travel to league rival Purchase. Opening Draw with the Panthers is scheduled for 3:00 p.m.
