Mount Saint Vincent Dealt Non-Conference Road Loss At King’s (Pa.)

Riverdale, N.Y. – The College of Mount Saint Vincent Women's Lacrosse team dropped a 9-6 road decision at King's (Pa.) on Wednesday evening, stopping a two game winning streak. Katie Coyle (Yorktown, N.Y.) and Jessica McAllister (Floral Park, N.Y.) each scored twice for the Mount.
 
Mount Saint Vincent got out to a quick 2-0 lead on Wednesday after Kelly Fraser (Staten Island, N.Y.) and McAllister scored back-to-back goals in the first six minutes of action. Fraser scored 46 seconds into the tilt for the Mount and McAllister tallied her second goal of the season at the 24:58 mark of the opening stanza.
 
King's answered with the next four goals to grab the lead for good in the game. Amanda Harney scored consecutive goals at 20:14 and 14:07 before Gabriella Morrocu scored back-to-back goals at 13:01 and 9:25 to build the 4-2 advantage.
 
McAllister got the Dolphins back on the board with her second of the game with 7:11 left in the half, but King's got the final two goals in the last 36 seconds of the half to carry a 6-3 lead into the intermission. King's outshot the Mount 18-10 in the first 30 minutes and picked up 14 of the 22 groundballs.
 
The two teams would alternate goals through the second half, with the Mount closing to within two goals on three occasions. Rachel Steimel (Shoreham, N.Y.) brought the Dolphins to within 6-4 three minutes into the second half, but King's would answer with a Harney goal at the 11:24 mark. Coyle would net two goals to cut the Mount's deficit to 7-5 and 8-6, but each tallied was answered by King's, with Morrocu scoring with 1:03 left in regulation to close out the scoring.
 
Coyle scored her first two goals of the season on Wednesday for the Dolphins and added a groundball. McAllister contributed five groundballs, four draw controls and three caused turnovers to her two goals. Fraser finished with three points on a goal and two assists and added a draw control, caused turnover and groundball.
 
Laura Carr (Franklin Square, N.Y.) and Colleen Walsh (Manchester, Vt.) chipped in with three groundballs and two caused turnovers apiece for the Mount and Samantha Ramsden (Warren, R.I.) added a pair of caused turnovers.
 
Morrocu scored four times for King's in the game and added five groundballs and four draw controls. Harney netted three goals and caused five turnovers. Jessica Ormrod led all players with six groundballs and chipped in with two caused turnovers.
 
Kacie McCormack (Mahopac, N.Y.) made 10 saves in the game for Mount Saint Vincent, including eight in the first half. Courtney Stefanik finished with five stops and two groundballs in earning the win for King's.
 
King's finished the game with a 30-15 advantage in shots on Wednesday and 25-15 edge in groundballs. King's also won nine draw controls in the game.
 
Wednesday's loss drops Mount Saint Vincent to 2-3 overall on the season. The Dolphins will return to Skyline Conference play on Saturday when they welcome Mount Saint Mary. Opening Draw at Tibbetts Brook Park is scheduled for 2:00 p.m.
