Dolphins Collect Non-Conference Win Over Albertus Magnus

Fraser leads four in double-figures with game-high 26 points

Riverdale, N.Y. – Led by a game-high 26 points from senior Kelly Fraser (Staten Island, N.Y.) and a season-high 10 points from junior Nicole Oliver (Carmel, N.Y.), the College of Mount Saint Vincent Women's Basketball team scored a 75-70 non-conference home win over Albertus Magnus on Monday evening.
 
Mount Saint Vincent scored the first five points of the game and moved in front by seven points, at 23-16, on a Fraser conversion with 7:56 left before halftime. After Fraser gave the Mount its half-high advantage, the visitors strung together a 14-2 stretch covering just over four minutes to pull in front 30-25 with 3:41 left in the period.
 
After falling behind 23-16, the Falcons ripped off the next seven points, including a triple from Olivia Sutherland, to quickly knot the score at 23-23. The Dolphins went 1-for-5 from the floor over the Albertus Magnus run, while the Falcons went 6-for-12, including an Olivia Bolden jumper to push the visitors in front by five with just under four minutes left in the frame.
 
Mount Saint Vincent answered the Albertus Magnus run with the final six points of half to take a 31-30 lead into the intermission. All six points came from Fraser, including a jumper at the horn to give the Mount their first lead since 7:18 remained in the half.
 
The Dolphins shot 39.4-percent from the floor before halftime and used a 15-4 advantage off of turnovers to build the halftime lead. The Falcons, led by 12 points from Tyler Evans, shot 41.9-percent in the first half and outrebounded the Mount 28-15. Fraser paced the Mount at the break with 12 points on 6-for-12 shooting.
 
Coming out of halftime, the Mount tallied the first nine points of the second half to quickly spread its lead to 40-30 with 16:32 to play in regulation time. Fraser scored the first six points on the strength of four free-throws, while Oliver closed the stretch with a three-pointer to give the Mount a double-digit advantage.
 
The Dolphins would not trail in the second half and allowed the Falcons only as close as four points in the final minute of the period. The Dolphins took a game-high 14 point lead twice in the last eight minutes of regulation. The first came on an Allison Clarke (East Northport, N.Y.) three-pointer with 8:00 minutes left to give the Mount a 61-47 advantage and then again with 7:52 left on a pair of Clarke free-throws.
 
Mount Saint Vincent would not allow Albertus Magnus closer than eight points until the final two minutes when a quick 6-0 spurt from the visitors sliced the lead to 74-70 with 20 seconds left. A Christina Barone (Staten Island, N.Y.) free-throw with 13 seconds left closed out the scoring in the game and secured the final five point decision.
 
Albertus Magnus was held to 1-for-6 shooting from behind the arc in the second half, with the Mount converting on four of its seven attempts from bonus distance. Fraser scored 14 points after halftime for the Mount with Barone adding eight points, all from the free-throw line, and handing out five assists.
 
Fraser closed the game 10-for-19 from the floor and 6-for-11 from the free-throw line on her way to a season-high 26 points. She added nine rebounds in the victory and swiped three steals.
 
Sophomore Brittany Carroll (Staten Island, N.Y.) rounded out the night with 13 points on the strength of three triples, while Barone and Oliver each chipped in 10 points. Oliver reached double-figures for the first time this season and knocked in the first two three-point field goals of her career. Barone hit a career-high 10 free-throws on Monday and narrowly missed a triple-double after finishing with nine assists and a career-high seven steals.
 
Albertus Magnus was paced by 21 points from Evans who finished 7-for-13 from the floor, adding six rebounds and three steals. Bolden chipped in with 17 points and 12 rebounds, with Olivia Sutherland adding 11 points, five rebounds and three assists. Kelsey Pendagast rounded out the night with a game-high 13 rebounds.
 
Mount Saint Vincent finished the night shooting 36.5-percent from the floor and 36.8-percent from three-point range. The Dolphins turned 24 Falcon turnovers into 22 points and posted a 16-10 advantage in second chance scoring.
 
Monday's win pushes Mount Saint Vincent to 6-2 overall on the season. The Dolphins will be off until December 29 when they play host to Mount Ida. Tip-off at the Peter Jay Sharp Center is scheduled for 3:00 p.m.
