Yonkers, N.Y. – College of Mount Saint Vincent freshman
Victor Ramirez (Los Angeles, Calif.) converted a penalty kick in the 53
rd minute on Wednesday night to push the Dolphins past Vaughn by a score of 1-0. The win is the Mount's sixth straight and marks the longest winning streak on record (2004.).
Mount Saint Vincent dominated territorially throughout the game, but went into the halftime intermission scoreless with the Warriors despite a 10-0 advantage in shots after 45 minutes.
The contest would remain scoreless through the first five minutes of the second half until a foul in box gave the Mount a penalty opportunity. Ramirez did not miss and converted his team leading seventh goal of the season and his second game winning marker.
The Mount would carry the play the rest of the evening and finished the second half with a 17-0 shot advantage.
David Melchor (Los Angeles, Calif.) picked up his fifth shutout of the season in the win without having to make a stop. He lowered his goals against average to 0.17 on the season. Ahmed Aly from Vaughn stopped eight shots in the loss.
The Dolphins rounded out the night with a 27-0 overall edge in shots, but just a 9-0 advantage in shots on goal. Ramirez led the team with seven shots, with
Jorge Chavez (West Covina, Calif.) finishing with five. Chavez and
Jonathan Barajas (Chestnut Ridge, N.Y.) led the team with three shots on goal apiece.
Wednesday's win pushes Mount Saint Vincent to a perfect 6-0 on the season overall. The Dolphins will look for their seventh straight victory on Saturday night when they play host to the Culinary Institute of America. Kick-off at Tibbetts Brook Park is scheduled for 7:30 p.m.
