Yonkers, N.Y. – Led by five goals and six points from
Nicole Flores (Bethpage, N.Y.) and three goals each from
Laura Carr (Franklin Square, N.Y.) and
Katie Coyle (Yorktown Heights, N.Y.), the College of Mount Saint Vincent Women's Lacrosse team snapped a four game losing streak with an 18-4 win over visiting Sage on Wednesday.
After Sage took a 2-1 lead with goals from Alexa Pajak and Melisa Spring in the first 10 minutes of play, the Dolphins closed the half with seven of the final eight goals to take an 8-3 lead into halftime. Flores scored three goals in the opening 30 minutes for Mount Saint Vincent, with Carr adding a pair of markers for the Dolphins.
Mount Saint Vincent held the visiting Gators to just one goal in the second half and outscored Sage 10-1 after the break. The Dolphins scored the first six goals of the period with Flores and Coyle each netting a pair of goals over that stretch.
Pajak scored her third goal of the game for Sage with 11:32 left in regulation before the Mount scored four more times in the last 10:22 of regulation. Carr closed out the scoring in the game with 1:43 left with her third tally of the game.
Flores rounded out the afternoon with five goals and an assist and leads the team in both goals with 20 and points with 28. Flores added three groundballs for the Dolphins and eight draw controls.
Carr finished up with five points after adding two assists to her three goals. She paced all players with nine groundballs in the game and added three draw controls. Coyle closed out a strong game with a groundball.
Samantha Ramsden (Warren, R.I.) scored two goals for Mount Saint Vincent on Wednesday and
Colleen Walsh (Manchester, Vt.) recorded four points on two goals and a pair of assists. Ramsden added five groundballs and four draw controls and Walsh scooped three groundballs.
Pajak scored three of the Gators' four goals in the game and Lindsay Millett picked up an assist for Sage. Mallory Hansen picked up three groundballs and won two draw controls.
Kacie McCormack (Mahopac, N.Y.) secured the win in goal for Mount Saint Vincent, making 10 saves and collecting one groundball. Serena Heard took the loss, stopping three Mount Saint Vincent shots.
For the afternoon, Mount Saint Vincent held in the edge in shots 35-16, shots on goal 24-14, groundballs 30-19 and draw controls 18-6. The Dolphins also went 6-for-9 in clearing attempts.
Wednesday's win moves Mount Saint Vincent to 4-7 overall and to 2-4 in Skyline Conference play. The Dolphins will be back in action again on Saturday when they travel to Mount Saint Mary. Opening Draw is scheduled for 1:00 p.m.
