Dolphins Drop Non-Conference Road Contest At Bridgewater State

Bridgewater, Mass. – Junior Samantha Ramsden (Warren, R.I.) recorded four points and freshman Katie Coyle (Yorktown Heights, N.Y.) scored two goals, but the College of Mount Saint Vincent Women's Lacrosse team dropped its third straight game with a 20-5 road loss at Bridgewater State on Thursday.
 
The Bears opened the game with the first four goals before Ramsden and Coyle netted back-to-back goals to bring the Dolphins to within 4-2. After Coyle's fifth goal of the season at the 19:44 mark of the first half, Bridgewater State went on to score the final 10 goals of the period to take a 14-2 advantage into the intermission.
 
The Bears outshot Mount Saint Vincent 24-5 in the first half overall and 21-3 in shots on goal. Jill Caramello and Alyssa Hadock each tallied three times in the first half for Bridgewater State.
 
The Bears extended their lead to 17-2 with the first three goals of the second half, before Ramsden and Coyle struck with consecutive goals again. Ramsden's 12th of the season came at the 21:40 mark of the second half and then she assisted on Coyle's second of the game with 16:27 to play in regulation.
 
Bridgewater State would tack on three more goals to move in front 20-4, before Gabriella Astorino (Warwick, N.Y.) scored her third goal of the season in the final half minute to close out the scoring in the game.
 
Caramello, Hadock, Taylor Clancy and Riley Cachelin all scored four goals in the game for the Bears, with Cachelin adding two assists to close a six point day. Shelby Farland scored twice and assisted on four goals and Lauren Geary added two assists, seven groundballs and 11 draw controls.
 
Ramsden sits third on the team in points following her four point day and Coyle is fifth on the team in both goals in points after her two markers on Thursday. Ramsden closed a strong day with three groundballs and three draw controls.
 
Kaitlyn Gaynor (Island Park, N.Y.) led the Dolphins with four groundballs, while Colleen Walsh (Manchester, Vt.) and Nicole Flores (Bethpage, N.Y.) each won two draw controls for the Mount.
 
In goal, Kacie McCormack (Mahopac, N.Y.) finished the game with nine saves and a groundball for Mount Saint Vincent. Chandler Ross picked up the win for the Bears after making four stops.
 
Bridgewater State finished the game with a 37-14 advantage in shots overall and a 29-9 edge in shots on goal. The Bears won the groundball battle 21-15 and took 18 of the 27 draw controls contested.
 
Thursday's loss drops Mount Saint Vincent to 3-6 overall on the season. The Dolphins will return to league play on April 6 against Montclair State. Opening Draw at Tibbetts Brook Park is scheduled for 4:30 p.m.
