Patchogue, N.Y. – Led by four goals from
Melina Mezzanotte (Shirley, N.Y.) and six saves from
Kacie McCormack (Mahopac, N.Y.), the College of Mount Saint Vincent Women's Lacrosse team scored an 11-3 Skyline Conference victory at Old Westbury on Thursday night.
Mount Saint Vincent got the scoring started early on Thursday when
Katie Coyle (Yorktown Heights, N.Y.) got the Dolphins on the board just 1:08 into the tilt. Mezzanotte followed with her first of the night just under two minutes later as the Mount outscored Old Westbury 6-0 in the opening 30 minutes.
Mezzanotte and
Nicole Flores (Bethpage, NY.) each scored two goals in the first half for the Dolphins, with
Samantha Ramsden (Warren, R.I.) also adding a tally in the opening frame. Coyle finished the first half with two points after assisting on Mezzanotte's first marker.
Sarah Coletti (Mansfield, Mass.) pushed the Mount Saint Vincent lead to 7-0 in the first minute of the second half before Old Westbury's Courtney Gallagher got the Panthers on the board with 23:47 left in regulation.
The Dolphins would outscore the Panthers 5-3 after halftime with Flores adding her third of the night in the second half and Mezzanotte scoring her third and fourth.
Gabriella Astorino (Warwick, N.Y.) added her second goal of the season in the second stanza for the Dolphins.
Flores and Mezzanotte finished the game with four points apiece with Flores adding an assist to her three goals. Flores finished a productive night with five draw controls, two groundballs and a pair of caused turnovers. Mezzanotte picked up three groundballs and added a draw control in the win.
Ramsden finished the night with a team-high five groundballs, while Colletti and
Laura Carr (Franklin Square, N.Y.) scooped four each for the Mount. Ramsden also led the team with four caused turnovers to go along with three draw controls.
Gallagher scored twice for Old Westbury and added a draw control and a caused turnover. Anna Noens picked up five groundballs to lead the team and led all players with five caused turnovers.
McCormack earned her third win of the season in goal for Mount Saint Vincent after stopping three shots in each half. She also picked up three groundballs for the Dolphins. Sara Braverman finished with 11 stops for the Panthers and three groundballs.
Mount Saint Vincent closed the night with a 32-14 advantage in shots and an 11-5 edge in draw controls. The Dolphins also won the groundball battle 28-20 on Thursday.
With the win, Mount Saint Vincent evens its overall record at 3-3 and its league mark at 1-1. The Dolphins will look to climb above the .500 mark on Saturday when they travel to Ramapo. Opening Draw is scheduled for 1:00 p.m.
