Dolphins Roll To Second Straight Victory

Kings Point, N.Y. – Led by two goals and two assists from Nicole Flores (Bethpage, N.Y.) and Kelly Fraser (Staten Island, N.Y.), the College of Mount Saint Vincent Women's Lacrosse squad picked up its second win in as many outings on Tuesday evening with a 14-4 road win at the Merchant Marine Academy.
 
The Dolphins opened the contest with three straight goals inside the first nine minutes of play to take an early 3-0 advantage. Flores scored a goal and assisted on a Laura Carr (Franklin Square, N.Y.) tally after Fraser opened the scoring in the game with her first of the day at the 28:55 mark.
 
The Mariners got on the board with a goal from Alexandra Winfree, but the Dolphins responded with five of the final six goals of the first half to take an 8-2 lead into the intermission. Flores and Fraser added their second goals of the game over the run, with Melina Mezzanotte (Shirley, N.Y.), Tara Maltbie (Garnerville, N.Y.) and Katie Coyle (Yorktown Heights, N.Y.) all scoring their first of the season prior to halftime.
 
Coming out of halftime, Mount Saint Vincent would extend its lead to 12-2 with the first four tallies of the second frame. Colleen Walsh (Manchester, Vt.) scored twice in the first 10 minutes of the half, with Sarah Colletti (Mansfield, Mass.) and Gabriella Astorino (Warwick, N.Y.) adding markers for the Dolphins.
 
In all, the Mount had 11 different goal scorers in the game and featured three players with a pair of markers. Carr led the team with eight groundballs and game-highs in draw controls and caused turnovers with seven each. Kaitlyn Gaynor (Island Park, N.Y.) added a goal, four groundballs and four caused turnovers.
 
Kacie McCormack (Mahopac, N.Y.) picked up her second straight win in goal for the Dolphins after making six saves. Kelly Allison took the loss for USMMA-Kings Point, making 13 stops.
 
Mount Saint Vincent finished the game with a 33-13 advantage in shots and a 25-19 edge in groundballs. The Dolphins won 13 of the 20 draw controls taken in the game and turnovers went 31-20 against the Mariners.
 
At 2-2 overall on the season, Mount Saint Vincent will be back in action on Saturday when it opens Skyline Conference play at Kean. Opening Draw with the Cougars is scheduled for 1:00 p.m.
