Dolphins Open Season With Road Loss At Ducks

Hoboken, N.J. – The College of Mount Saint Vincent Women's Lacrosse team opened the 2013 season with a 20-3 loss on the road at Stevens Wednesday evening. Sophomore Kelly Fraser (Staten Island, N.Y.) paced the Dolphins with a pair of tallies.
 
After Stevens got the first four goals after Kara Rafferty and Joey Galligan scored two markers each, Samantha Ramsden (Warren, R.I.) got the Dolphins on the board with her first of the season at the 18:46 mark of the first half.
 
Leading 4-1, the Ducks broke the game open with the next seven goals to pull in front 11-1. Spencer Wayright scored three straight goals over that stretch for Stevens and added an assist on a Holly Good goal.
 
Fraser got the Dolphins' second goal of the game on an unassisted tally with 1:01 left before halftime. The Ducks answered by scoring three straight times in the final 49 seconds to take a commanding 14-2 lead into the intermission.
 
Stevens continued their run with the first three goals of the second stanza to jump in front 17-2. Fraser connected on her second of the game to break up the scoring run for the Ducks at the 18:05 mark.
 
Waybright and Rafferty finished the game with five goals each and Waybright added five assists to close out a 10 point game. Andrea Dragoni added three tallies and picked up four groundballs for the Ducks, with Rafferty winning eight draw controls.
 
Fraser added a team-high four draw controls and picked up one of her goals on a free-position opportunity. Laura Carr (Franklin Square, N.Y.) picked up a team-high five groundballs and Ramsden scooped one for the Dolphins.
 
Kacie McCormack (Mahopac, N.Y.) made the start in goal and made 14 saves for the Mount and picked up a groundball. Stevens used three net minders, with Sarah Prall making five stops in 16:29 of work.
 
For the game, the Ducks outshot the Dolphins 44-16 and won the groundball battle 28-15. Stevens won 20 of the 25 draw controls contested and turnovers in the contest went against the Dolphins 16-12.
 
The loss drops Mount Saint Vincent to 0-1 on the season. The Dolphins will look to even their record on Saturday afternoon when they travel to Centenary. Opening Draw with the Cyclones is set for 3:00 p.m.
