Season opener the first for head coach Jenna Riedel

Riverdale, N.Y. – Under the direction of new head coach Jenna Riedel, the College of Mount Saint Vincent Women's Lacrosse team will kick-off the 2013 season on Wednesday evening on the road at Stevens. Opening Draw with the Ducks is scheduled for 5:00 p.m. with live stats and video available.

After losing only one player to graduation from the 2012 team, the Dolphins return their top two goals scorers from last season in Nicole Flores (Bethpage, N.Y.) and Kelly Fraser (Staten Island, N.Y.).

Flores finished the 2012 campaign with team-highs in goals (41), assists (10), points (51), groundballs (45), draw controls (60) and caused turnovers (21). Following the 2012 season, Flores was honored as a Second Team All-Skyline Conference selection.

In her first season with the Dolphins, Fraser ranked second on the team in goals with 25 and points with 26 in 2012. She also contributed 24 groundballs, seven draw controls and seven caused turnovers.

Mount Saint Vincent also returns junior and 2012 Second Team All-League selection Colleen Walsh (Manchester, Vt.) who anchored the defense for the Dolphins last season. Walsh rounded out the season with 27 groundballs in 2012 to go along with 12 caused turnovers and seven draw controls.

Riedel and the Dolphins will also look for increased contributions from junior Samantha Ramsden (Warren, R.I.) and Melina Mezzanotte (Shirley, N.Y.). Ramsden closed her sophomore season with 10 goals and 11 points and finished second on the team in caused turnovers with 20. Mezzanotte scored nine times and produced 10 points in her rookie season.

After qualifying for the Skyline Conference Tournament for six straight years from 2006-2011, the Dolphins missed the event in 2012 after posting a 4-9 overall record and a 3-5 mark in league play.
