Newburgh, N.Y. – The College of Mount Saint Vincent Women's Volleyball team was handed a pair of Skyline Conference losses on Saturday, falling to Farmingdale State 22-25, 16-25, 25-19 and 24-26 and then St. Joseph's-L.I. 16-25, 19-25, 25-21 and 14-25. Sophomore setter
Zana Daluz (Pawtucket, R.I.) recorded a pair of double-doubles for the Dolphins.
In the opener against Farmingdale State on Saturday, the Dolphins fell behind 2-0 before rallying for a third set victory. The Mount opened the set with the first four points, including a pair of service aces Daluz and a kill from
Maria Leineweber (Waimanalo, Hawaii).
The Dolphins would go on to open a lead as large as 24-16 before allowing Farmingdale State to creep to within 24-19 after three consecutive miscues. Mount Saint Vincent would hold on for the set victory after a Ram service error stopped a 3-0 scoring run.
Mount Saint Vincent was led by 12 kills from Leineweber against the Rams who also added nine digs and three service aces.
Ashleigh Scozzari (New Rochelle, N.Y.) chipped in with nine winners, six digs and a pair of total blocks and
Brianna Walker (Pomona, N.Y.) added six kills.
Daluz handed out 27 assists for Mount Saint Vincent against the Rams to go along with 13 digs and three aces. The double-double was Daluz's team leading seventh of the season.
Jennifer Roman (Queens Village, N.Y.) led the Mount with 14 digs and added a pair of aces.
Farmingdale State was paced by a match-high 19 kills from Sarah Palladino and 36 assists from Megan Pisciotta. Francesca Calderon led the Rams with 11 digs, while Samantha Morra and Karen Ulysse led all players with five aces each.
For the match, Farmingdale State held the edge in kills 43-39 and in service aces 16-10. With their 10 service aces against the Rams, the Dolphins reached double-figures in the category for the seventh time this season.
In the second match of the day, the Dolphins fell behind by two sets again before taking the third set to cut its deficit to two sets to one. In the third set victory, the Dolphins started with a 5-0 run and then closed with nine of the final 11 tallies. Leineweber and Scozzari combined for 11 of the team's 14 winners in the frame and Daluz recorded a pair of service aces.
Scozzari rounded out the contest with a match-high 15 kills and matched the team-high in digs with 11. She also led the Dolphins with five solo blocks in the tilt. Leineweber picked up 10 winners for Mount Saint Vincent and hit .304 to go along with six digs, a pair of aces and a total block.
Daluz picked up her second double-double of the day and eighth of the season after handing out 21 assists and lifting 11 digs.
Nichole Riehm (Irvington, N.Y.) and Daluz each finished with three aces, while
Erika Moncada (Yonkers, N.Y.) lifted seven digs.
The Golden Eagles showed four players in double-figures in the kill category with Tiffany Willms leading the way with 14 while hitting .480. Willms was only one of three players in double-figures in digs with 14 to go along with three blocks. Julianne Tierney led all players with 36 assists.
St. Joseph's finished the match with a 55-36 advantage in kills, a 12-9 edge in aces and a 62-49 edge in digs. Mount Saint Vincent took a 6-3 advantage in total team blocks in the contest.
Following Saturday's results, Mount Saint Vincent falls to 4-15 overall on the season and back to .500 at 3-3 in Skyline Conference play. The Dolphins will be back in action looking to snap a three match losing streak on Thursday when they travel to Centenary. Match time with the Cyclones is set for 7:00 p.m.
