Riverdale, N.Y. – The College of Mount Saint Vincent Women's Volleyball team had its three match winning streak stopped on Tuesday night with a 25-19, 22-25, 25-19, 18-25 and 10-15 loss to non-conference foe Rutgers-Newark. Sophomore Ashleigh Scozzari (New Rochelle, N.Y.) rounded out the night with a career-high 17 kills.
 
Mount Saint Vincent got off to a strong start on Tuesday, recording 10 kills in the opening set win. After dropping the second set, the Dolphins rebounded with 15 winners in the third, including six from Brianna Walker (Pomona, N.Y.), to pull back in front by a set at 2-1.
 
After talking the third set, Mount Saint Vincent would not tie the Scarlet Raiders or hold a lead the rest of the night. The visitors led wire-to-wire from the start of the fourth frame to secure their fifth win of the season.
 
Scozzari had a big night for Mount Saint Vincent and finished with 17 winners and 16 digs for her first double-double of the season. Scozzari put away seven of her 17 kills in the second set on Tuesday. She also rounded out the night with an ace and a pair of blocks for the Dolphins.
 
Freshman Maria Leineweber (Waimanalo, Hawaii) continued the strong start to her collegiate career with 12 kills and 12 digs. In addition to her second double-double of the season, Leineweber led Mount Saint Vincent with four service aces.
 
Sophomore Zana Daluz (Pawtucket, R.I.) was the third Dolphin to post a double-double on Tuesday with her team leading fifth of the season. She handed out a season-high 38 assists for Mount Saint Vincent to go along with 13 digs, five kills and a service ace.
 
Mount Saint Vincent also got a strong performance from Walker who collected nine kills and hit .412 to go along with a team-high four blocks. Jennifer Roman (Queens, N.Y.) lifted nine digs in the contest for the Dolphins.
 
The visiting Scarlet Raiders were led by eight kills and a match-high 18 digs from Veronica Chau and seven winners from Sharee Gordon. Gordon also picked up four total blocks in the match for Rutgers-Newark.
 
Chrissy Campanelli and Emilie Pulecio each posted a double-double for Rutgers-Newark, with Campanelli handing out a team-high 17 assists to go along with 10 digs and Pulecio totaling 10 helpers and 11 digs. Kathy Hormaza also had a solid evening with 15 digs and five service aces.
 
For the night, Mount Saint Vincent had a 47-37 edge in kills, while Rutgers-Newark took an 11-7 edge in service aces. Total team blocks in the match were even at six apiece.
 
Tuesday's loss drops Mount Saint Vincent to 3-11 overall on the season. The Dolphins will be back in action again on Thursday when they travel to the College of New Rochelle. Match time with the Blue Angels is scheduled for 7:00 p.m.
