Dolphins Cruise Past Defenders; End Four Game Losing Streak

Riverdale, N.Y. – Led by a game-high 14 points from Kelly Fraser and 11 points from junior Tanisha Montague (Brooklyn, N.Y.), the College of Mount Saint Vincent Women's Basketball team ended a four game losing streak on Saturday with a convincing 64-34 win over Baptist Bible.
 
After falling behind by four points twice in the early going, the Mount used a 16-0 run over five minutes to pull in front 20-8 with just past the halfway mark of the first stanza. Fraser and junior Andrea Sinaly (Middle Village, N.Y.) combined for 14 of the 16 points over that stretch.
 
The Defenders would end their scoring drought with a Megan Wagner bucket at the 9:40 mark, but Mount Saint Vincent closed the half on a 14-6 run to carry a commanding 34-16 lead into the intermission.
 
The Dolphins shot just shy of 47-percent in the opening 20 minutes and turned 19 Baptist Bible turnovers into an 18-4 advantage in points off of miscues. Fraser led all scorers at halftime with 12 points on 6-for-11 shooting.
 
Mount Saint Vincent built its lead to 30 points over the first seven and a half minutes of the second half after opening the period on a 17-5 run. Montague accounted for five points over that initial spurt of the half, while Shanice Robinson (New Rochelle, N.Y.) converted a pair of buckets.
 
After the Dolphins built their lead to a game-high 36 points on a Barbara Binet (Brooklyn, N.Y.) three-point play with 8:33 left in the contest, the Defenders were not able to creep any closer then 28 points the remainder of the night.
 
Baptist Bible was held to 13-for-49 shooting from the field and went 7-for-23 from the free-throw line. Morgan Jones led the Defenders with nine points and a game-high 16 rebounds, while Maeghin Mueller and Kelly Bargfeldt each scored eight points.
 
Fraser rounded out the night going 7-for-12 from the floor and added five rebounds, an assist and a blocked shot. Montague went 3-for-8 from the field, but a perfect 4-for-4 from the free-throw line, to go along with three boards and three assists.
 
Freshman Nicole Oliver (Carmel, N.Y.) came off the bench to score eight points and grab six rebounds, while Shannon Koch (Kings Park, N.Y.) and Sinaly each scored six points in the game, with Sinaly swiping four steals. Freshman Yen Pham (Queens, N.Y.) led the Mount with four assists.

Mount Saint Vincent finished the game shooting 46.2-percent from the floor and outrebounded Baptist Bible 45-38. The Dolphins posted a 26-18 edge in paint points and turned 27 Defender turnovers into 27 points.
 
Saturday's non-conference win pushes Mount Saint Vincent to 6-12 overall on the season. The Dolphins will return to league play on Monday when they travel to Old Westbury. Tip-off is scheduled for 5:00 p.m.
