Riverdale, N.Y. – The College of Mount Saint Vincent Women's Basketball team was downed for the fourth straight time on Thursday evening with a 58-31 loss to league rival Sage. The Dolphins did not have a player score in double-figures and were paced by a career-high eight points from freshman
Yen Pham (Queens, N.Y.).
Sage led the game wire-to-wire on Thursday and jumped out to a 10-2 lead following a fast break conversion from Amie Jefferson with 15:18 to play in the first half. After
Kelly Fraser (Staten Island, N.Y.) got the Mount on the board at the 18:23 mark, the Dolphins went over five minutes without a field goal, until a Pham conversion with just over 13 minutes to play in the period.
An Erica Houle three-pointer spread the Gators lead to 20-10 with 7:08 showing on the first half clock and the visitors took their largest lead of the stanza when Laurel Jicha converted a layup with just over six minutes to play before halftime, giving Sage a 22-10 advantage.
Over the final 8:03 of the first half, Mount Saint Vincent was held to five points and one field goal. The Dolphins shot 14.3-percent from the floor and went 1-for-7 from behind the arc. Sage shot an even 31-percent overall, but knocked down five three-pointers, including three from Houle, over the opening 20 minutes.
Sage quickly opened a 20 point lead coming out of the intermission with a 10-0 run over the first 4:20 of the second half. Houle and Chelsea Marin sparked the rally with back-to-back triples.
The Dolphins would get as close as 18 points the rest of the way, with the visitors jumping out to a game-high 32 point lead with 2:34 left to play. The advantage was built with a 14-2 run over a nearly eight minute stretch.
Mount Saint Vincent struggled all night on the offensive end and finished the contest shooting 14.8-percent from the floor. The Dolphins went 0-for-4 from behind the arc in the second half to finish 1-for-11 overall and misfired on 10 free-throws, shooting just 54.5-percent from the charity stripe.
The Gators finished the night 20-for-57 from the floor and 10-for-26 from behind the arc to pick up the win. Houle was the only player in double-figures in the game after scoring a game-high 19 points on the strength of six three-pointers. Jefferson finished the night with a game-high 12 rebounds and Megan Bowman led all players with six assists.
Pham wrapped up the night shooting 2-for-6 from the floor, but a perfect 4-for-4 from the free-throw line. She also grabbed three rebounds and handed out an assist for the Dolphins.
Shanice Robinson (New Rochelle, N.Y.) hauled in a team and career-high 11 rebounds and also contributed two assists and a pair of blocked shots.
Thursday's loss sends Mount Saint Vincent to a 5-12 overall record and a 0-8 mark against Skyline Conference opponents. The Dolphins will look to snap their four game skid on Saturday evening when they welcome Baptist Bible to the Sharp Center. Tip-off is scheduled for 5:30 p.m.
